Capital One credit card company is nothing but a bunch of thieves. I pay my bill every month, on time, on their website. When it was due this month I paid it on the due date, but it was after 3:00pm. They charged me a $29 late fee for paying after 3:00pm. They should state on their website that it is considered late after 3:00pm. That $29 fee put me over the limit by $9 because they didn't apply my payment. Guess what I've never been over the limit, but I'll bet they charge me for an over the limit fee because they neved posted my payment to the account and it's two days later than when I set up payment on their site. I checked my on-line banking and sure enough the money was deducted from my account the very next day. They are crooks. I immediately cancelled my account and will never deal with them again. The manager told me that I shouldn't have waited until the last minute to pay my bill. I told her I had an emergency and that my daughter was ill and had to go for a medical test. She said that's not her problem and that the late fee would stay on.

WHAT???!!?

AUTHOR: Dave - (U.S.A.)

Capital One is HORRIBLE. Now, as far as the poster is concerned, you are wrong. It clearly states what time your payment needs to be entered. But as far as the last poster, take of those rose-colored glasses!

Capital One is the worst. I had them for many years, I don't even know why I kept the cards that long. But, they charge large annual fees, and absolutely will not lower your interest rate until you call to CANCEL. Then, miraculously, they tell you what a great customer you have been, and will lower your rate by as much as 6 points! Sorry, but too little too late.

So, pay early, never be late, be a perfect customer, and you still get screwed...

Forgot to mention...

Linda I forgot to mention in my earlier response that most credit card companies do not want to hear excuses as to why your payment was late. They have heard every one in the book. I cannot believe some of the ones I heard sometimes. You generally have 3 weeks from the time you get your statement to pay your bill. I was in a very bad car accident two years ago that left me hospitalized for a week. I was also on a steady morphine drip for most of that week and high as a kite. Even then, I still had my mother pay my bills for me. I was able to tell her exactly which ones, how much I wanted her to pay and when they were due. All with a serious concussion and several broken bones (needless to say I was in excruciating pain) So I have little sympathy for people who use the 'someone was in the hospital' excuse. The world doesn't stop turning and your responsibilites don't stop. I understand under times of duress the last thing you want to think about is paying a bill. It was a huge pain in the you know what for me when I was hospitalized. But as adults we still have responsibilities and those don't stop just because something happens.

It was rude for that manager to say your problems were not hers. I never would have said that to someone when I worked in customer service. As a one time courtesy I probably would have removed it and made a note on the account so that person couldn't use that one again. I would have asked for someone higher than her.

Check the website again.

Check the website again. I also have a Capital One account and every single month make a payment online. I have seen that advisement of when the payment will post every single time. It's on the last page after you confirm your payment and submit it. If you are going to wait until the day before your due date to make the payment, that's your fault alone that you got a late fee, not theirs.
