March 18, 2002 my disabled husband, due to a heart conditon decided he needed a cell phone.
He got a cell phone so he could call for help if he needed to while he was way from home. He got a cell phone from Cell One.
He paid $39.99 for the phone and a $100 deposit was required by Cell One. He was to pay $35 per month for the service for the 2 years of the contract.
With in a couple of months the monthly charge went up to $45. per month. When he asked about that he was told that is what the new cost of the plan you have is. That was not the agreed on price in the contract.
He no sooner got the phone and he discovered that there was no service where the map said he would have service. He reported this to the store and he also called the 800# to report this. He was told that a service man would be sent out with in the week. No one ever came out.
My husband could never use the web site to check his bill or file complaints, he was never able to log on. Of course I was not allowed to talk to anyone about the phone service because the phone was not in my name. My husband one day got them on the line and gave them permisson for me to speak to them. She "reset" the password for the account. She told me to wait for 10 minutes and then I could log into the account. Of course I was off the phone with her when the 10 minutes was up and of course we could not log into the web site.
My husband had another heart attack while driving and the phone did no good because there was no service, but he was in a service area by the map. He had to drive to a service station to get help.
My husband decided to keep the phone for the 2 years just because we could not afford to loose the $200.
In Feb of 2004 he contacted Cell One both the store where he got the service and by writing when he paid the bill that he wanted to phone shut off when the contract was up on March 18, 2004.
In March he got a bill, he again told them he wanted the service shut off and he had not been using the phone. The bill was for $ 123.78 in April. He again asked them to shut off the phone. He sent a check for $23.78 and told them to use the $100 deposit to pay the balance of $100.
Cell One has now sent the bill to a collection agency for $140.30.
He has not been ableto use the phone in the case of an emergency or even began to use the minutes allowed because of no service. He has been over billed from the start because of them adding $10 a month to the bill. Over the course of 2 years they got $240 more. They did not shut off the phone even after being asked to many times both in person and in writing.
Beware of Cell One They will take you big time.

CellularOne ripoff

I made changes to my plan over the phone, rep said all was ok, But then the bills started coming in that did not reflect the changes. When I called back they said to bad, pay up. In time I will be dropping their service and going to a pay as you go plan from WallMart. Do not do any business with CellOne with recording you conversion, they are out for all the money they can get, forget service and long term customers.

#1 Consumer Suggestion
Better Business Bureau they keep files

This response is to everyone involved with Cellular One. I was also ripped off by this company but had it resolved. Every single story I have read about CellOne has a great option available to them. Call the Better Business Bureau. We were able to report Cell One's over charging and had over $900 taken off of our bill. The BBB does wonders when dealing with the company and they keep files of the complaints they had against the company. Good luck to you all!
