CiC Credit Monitor Svc Company charged credit card without authorization. Company was rude and failed to expalin how this occured. ORANGE California

November of 2003 I browsed the internet for a "free credit report" and CIC's website came up under my search. Since this time their website has changed. Upon request of a free credit report my social security number was asked for. I typed it in. This was the only information that was requested. It stated a free trial membership for the duration of 30 days. I called the service and canceled the membership immediately. The Customer Service Representative assured me that my membership was canceled and there would be no charge. I just received my credit card statement and there was a charge of $79.95 I did not recognize. Obviously my membership was never canceled and I was still charged. Under the description of the charge stated: CIC* Credit Monitor Svc. 877-513-4175. I called the toll free number listed to inquire about this charge. After being put on hold for an hour I finally got through to another Customer Service Rep. She was quite rude. I informed her of the charge that was on my credit card. I was told the charge of 79.95 would be credited back to my credit card account. I asked how my credit card number was accessed and she insisted that I had entered the number at the time I requested a free credit report. This was false. As I stated, I never entered my credit card number. In fact I don't use this credit card at all and is stored securely for emergency purposes only.
