I recently took citi bank up on a balance transfer deal for 3.9% for a year. I paid two credit cards off and mailed those checks along with my payment to citi bank. It was also due in 2 weeks. All of my creditors received payment and nmy balance transfers went through. Some how citi bank did not receive my payment. Or, they chose not to cash the check. This ruined my whole entire balance transfer! They raised my apr to 56% on standard purchases and 29% on my average purchases! That is higher then it was before I did the transfers!
When I contacted them they said my account was delinquent for missing that payment! I fought and argued but, they did nothing for me. This isn't the first time credit cards have done this to me . It happens only when I am doing a balance transfer and it is always the same thing. They did not receive the payment. I usually pay my bills on line. Now I know that is the only safe way to do it.
This company should not be allowed to raise rates like this. It is a joke! I really think they chose to note cash my check knowing that would ruin my APR and they can now get rich off of me! I am in a bind because now the minimum payment is 445.00! Because of the balance and huge APR! I hope someone can check this out. I am getting nowhere with citi bank. I am done with them. Please help!!
Thank you.

Interest Rates

You need to call them back and ask to speak with a supervisor. First of all I'd ask them to explain the interest rates to you. 56% is not even legal. And there shouldn't be a difference between your average and standard purchases, I've never even heard of this terminology.
I work for a credit card company, have for many years. Usually one missed payment won't cause it to jump up so high, and if you mailed a check they can research that and find it. If it hasn't been cashed, you just put a stop pay on the one you sent and re-do the payment. As long as this hasn't happened before, they should be able to override that and bring the promo rate back.
Unless of course there's more to the story than you're sharing, none of this should be an issue.
