My AC broke down in the middle of July. Colonial Home Warranty has a 2 day promise to have their contracted specialist give you a call after you file your claim. 4 days later I receive a call from the contracted company saying it will be another 4 days before they can see me. Candles were melting in my home at this point.

Called CHW again and they told me I could use my own guy! So I called a nationally well known AC service company to see my unit and write up an estimate. about 6k. Called CWH again and they told me they would only pay for 1.5K of it and they still would have to send their own person to inspect before the work got done.

Waited 3 days and finally a guy deemed by CHW came to inspect my uint and wrote up the following diagnosis for 5k:

Diagnosis:

- The AC unit compressor has broke down and is need of replacement.

- No signs of excessive wear and tear were found upon the inspection the unit or on the other
components making up the HVAC.

- Unit seems to have been maintained in an acceptable manner for purposes regarding warranties and insurance.

- A specific cause of the malfunction is unknown. However no signs of vandalism, unproper care, nor external/internal damage were witnessed. The breakdown can be attributed of the age of the unit 

Great right! WRONG! CHW still denied the claim saying that the AC unit was improperly maintained because in my house inspection (prior to them giving me the warranty) the inspector suggested I get the AC unit cleaned. This was deemed a pre-existing condition. They totally ignored the recommendation of their own professional!

As such, CHW accepted payment for a service they knew they would not provide. They do not accept the written word of the experts they contract. Their service is awful (they didn't even call me to tell me they denied the claim, by the way). And last but not least they had the marbles to call me and ask if I would like to renew my contract for the upcoming year! 

Get a home warranty.... just not from these guys. Colonial Home Warranty
