Do Not Ever use Colonial Van Lines for your moving. At the beginning they gave me a very good estimate. A week later, it jumped up $1,000.00 more for no apparent reason. They guaranteed a pick up date in Ohio on a Wednesday and didn't arrive until 2 days later. I was blackmailed to take the Friday date or else it wouldn't be until the following week. I needed a power of attorney at my house in Ohio as I was already on my way to Florida to avoid the hurricane. They called me and told me to stop on my way to Florida somewhere and wait to get a fax and Notary to sign papers. Are they nuts. I am driving to Florida and want me to stop?? I arrived in Florida on Friday evening and my household items didn't arrive at my house until 2 weeks later at 4:40 in the evening. I handed the driver a cashier's check and he said, "Go cash it. I can't take it." I finally paid and the movers began to take my items off the truck at 6:30 at night. EVERYTHING was completely soaked. Not just wet but soaked. Every box and plastic tote crates with lids was completely soaked.  The boxes were falling apart as they were taking them off the truck. The plastic tote crates with lids had 1 - 2 inches of water in them. I opened them and all, not just some, but ALL of my items were WET and MOLDED and RUINED. There were family pictures, winning trophies and plaques, many, many awards/certificates and many items that are irreplaceable. Items that my family members built. Antiques from hundreds of years ago all ruined with mold. Every piece of fabric, from clothing to coats to underwear and socks, bed sheets and blankets and curtains had to be washed. They were soaked and stained with brown from the wet boxes. There were also many, many items that were broken. There were some items that are missing too. Most items cannot be replaced. The truck driver finally admitted. "Oh there must be a hole in the roof of the truck". Take a guess how I felt. I have cried for 5 days because of Colonial Van Lines. All I could say is DON'T EVER USE COLONIAL VAN LINES FOR YOUR MOVE!!!!

Now, my husband has a 50 year old original show car. They gave him an estimate to transport it in a closed truck. When they were suppose to come pick it up, they doubled the price and said they would not transport it in a closed truck. Of course it needs to be closed. It is an antique car.

This company will lie about prices just to get you to use them.

DO NOT EVER USE COLONIAL VAN LINES for your moving.

COMPANY RESPONSE

AUTHOR: Customer Relationship Manager - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, October 22, 2012

To provide clarification, the customer hired our company solely to coordinate her relocation arrangements. According to the shipping agreement established between the customer and our company, she was made aware within the documentation she received upon booking that Colonial Van Lines Relocation Division was hired as moving coordinator/shippers agent/broker and not to otherwise handle our participate in the move as the actual carrier. The concerns the customer has mentioned are only applicable to the agent that handled her goods and we do regret the losses she has suffered in result of her move.

Although it is the agent's responsibility to address the matters at hand, our records indicate that representatives of our company have reached out to the customer and as a good faith gesture our company offered the customer compensation for the delays and damages sustained based on the terms of the shipping agreement, however, the customer declined. We apologize for the frustration and inconveniences caused and the offer will remain as advised if the customer changes her mind.

If the customer has any additional questions, she may contact our office at her earliest convenience.

Sincerely,

Colonial Van Lines Relocation Division.
