Consolidated Readers Institute Rip Off, Harassment Arlington Heights Illinois

About 4 months ago, someone from Consolidated Readers Institute called me at work, saying I could get a subscription to 6 magazines for only $3 a week and that the payments were on an honors systems, then rattled off the names of these magazines. I was totally stoked, and said sure! They let me pick out my magazines and told me they would mail me a packet with the list of magazines I could subscribe to. Once I got the packet (around April 20th) I saw it had a contract in it. I was about to throw it away when I read the fine print, saying in order to cancel the agreement, the contract had to be returned by April 22nd. Two days was not sufficent time to return it.

So, I accepted the contract and didn't dispute because there was a clause stating that I could cancel service at any time and they would even buy back the magazines I had that were in good condition if I was dissatisfied. I mailed it back and the guy from CRI (Dennis) and he said he was sending someone over to pick up $25.00 for my first month, but the courier broke down and my first month was waived.

So, here it is August 31st, and I have yet to receive a single magazine that I asked for, I just keep getting Parenting magazines and outdoor photography, even though I am not a partent nor am I interested in being one. I get daily harassing phone calls from this company demending I send them the money.

Telling them that I haven't received the magazines only stopped their calls for a week, today I got a call from one of their reps who was extremely rude. I informed her that I would not be paying for a service that I wasn't getting, and she rebutted by telling me that I was under contract. When I mentioned the clause in the contract stating that I can cancel service at any time, she hung up on me. So much for customer service!

DO NOT BUY INTO THIS SCAM! IT WOULD COST LESS AS FAR AS TIME AND INTEGRITY TO JUST GET A REAL SUBSCRIPTION!

For anyone interested, you aren't even really subscribed to the magazines, every month you get a promotional copy.
