These companies are, by law, required to follow FDCPA guidelines. Now, having said that, they do not always do so. There are those collectors who will say and do almost anything to get a return call or payment. If you have these phone calls on tape, file a complaint online with the FTC. I had a company call my mom's once and left a meassage on her machine and told her that I was forty days late with my payment and they needed to get a message to me or "else." I filed a complaint, and I have never heard from them again. Now, this was not a vehilce loan that they were after, but the same laws still apply. Go to and read over the Fair Debt Collection and Practices Act. It outlines what companies can and cannot do in regard to collection of money. Good luck to you on this! Also, my boyfriend's truck is financed through CPS, so I feel your pain.
