I have a very common name so when CPS started leaving daily, nightly, weekend multiple messages for *Tim Jones about his 2000 Ford, I called them and politely told them that my name is Tom Jones and I don't know a Tim Jones, I don't own nor have I ever, a 2000 Ford and I also don't have any delinquent debt. That didn't stop them! They call constantly and the last time I picked up the phone to tell them I am not Tim, nor am I hiding this person whom I don't know - I asked the caller if they are just phishing - calling everyone in the U.S. named T. Jones? I informed her that there are a million Jones and we don't all know each other. She hung up on me. She called again later!!! I got concerned that these people could actually try to attach some stranger's debt to my credit. I checked my credit report, and that hasn't happened, but I wouldn't put anything past this unethical company. I have contacted the Illinois Attorney General Consumer Fraud Hotline.

If their message is vague, as well as inaccurate as far as YOU are concerned, why did you ever call back?
If you check on the various discussions here about dealing with collection agencies, the #1 rule was STAY OFF THE PHONE! Check it out.
