If you have an option, do NOT do business with CoServ Electric. This company has horrible customer service, and they will shamelessly lie to you in order to extort money you don’t owe. When I moved into my house in Frisco around May 2015, CoServ was the only electricity provider, so I had no choice. Upon signing up with CoServ, I elected to receive my monthly bills via email, and I received an email on 06/08/2015 with subject “Welcome to your CoServ myecogridaccount!” When given the option, I always elect to receive bills via email because I can keep forward them to my wife, put them in my “Bills” folder, and have access to them anytime I might need them in the future. Next, CoServ sent me an email on 06/17/2015 with subject “CoServ E-Notice June 2015” and an embedded link that said “View/Pay Your June Bill” that took me to the CoServ website where I could access my bill. I paid my June bill and assumed I would receive my monthly bills the same way every month.

This is where things took a turn for the worse. CoServ did not send me emails notifying me of monthly bills for July, August, September, or October. I didn’t realize I wasn’t getting the emails because my wife was diligently logging into the CoServ website regularly and paying our bill, even though we weren’t receiving paper statements in the mail either. Of course, as you can imagine, CoServ’s failure to send monthly statements eventually resulted in the electric bill not getting paid for October and November, so CoServ shut off my electricity WITHOUT NOTICE on 12/07/2015. Immediately after the lights went out, my wife called CoServ to report the outage and was informed that our electricity had been disconnected. My wife conferenced me into the phone call with the CoServ representative and, with the representative on the phone, I searched my Gmail for every email containing the word “CoServ.” I told the customer representative I had received exactly two emails, one on 06/08/2015 and another on 06/17/2015. The representative insisted that I had received emails every month and told me she could see where the emails were sent by CoServ and received by me. On a side note, I should mention here that I always check my “Spam” folder before I delete the contents, so I know the emails weren’t going into that folder. Obviously, I didn’t appreciate being called a liar by someone who had no firsthand knowledge about whether or not the emails were sent or received, but I was getting nowhere. This lady’s job was obviously not to resolve problems; her job was to extort money from people who made the mistake of doing business with CoServ.

My wife and I both told the representative that we had also not received a disconnect notice, but, again, the representative said she could see where it was sent to us and not returned to CoServ. We had absolutely NOT received a disconnect notice, otherwise WE WOULD HAVE PAID THE BILL TO AVOID A DISCONNECTION! Eventually, this con-artist was able to extract an additional $177.90 from us, above and beyond the amounts of our unpaid bills, in order to get our electricity reconnected. You read that right -- $177.90 above and beyond the amount we owed before they cut our electricity off without notice. To make matters worse, we received the disconnect notice AFTER our electricity had been reconnected, so, in other words, CoServ sent the disconnect notice after our call with the representative in an attempt to cover its tracks. Plus, I started receiving CoServ emails again AFTER our electricity had been reconnected, so the same representative who basically called me a liar must’ve reported the problem so CoServ could fix it after the fact. Honestly, I think CoServ’s conduct rises to the level of actionable fraud, so I’m just waiting to jump onboard the next class action lawsuit against CoServ for deceptive/dishonest trade practices. Again, if you have an option, do NOT do business with CoServ Electric.
