We have a mortgage with Coldwell Banker Mortgage (great company to deal with by the way). We obtained a home equity loan with Capital One who sold it to Countrywide home loans. This all started a few months after that. Apparently Countrywide must use different information from FEMA than Coldwell Banker Mortgage, Allstate Insurance Company and Capitl One Home Loans because Countrywide has decided we are in a flood zone even though the other companies have us not in a flood zone. This was so they could "force purchase" flood insurance from none other than Countrywide's insurance company.

I had reported them to the Better Business Bureau because I got sick of banging my head on the wall and talking to one idiot after another who basically read me their script of what I had to do to get them to drop the requirement. The insurance info from Allstate (directly from the insurance company portion of the FEMA website) was not good enough, I would have to obtain a LOMA/LOMR from FEMA.

Now, in the meantime, I have the complaint filed, am dealing with Countrywide, they went ahead and purchased the insurance. Their suggestion is that I put the money out for the LOMA/LOMR, wait for that and should it show I'm not in a flood zone, the rep I spoke with says she can reimburse the money I put out for that as well as the $1800 they spent for the insurance (keeping in mind, Allstate would cost me around $200). Merry Christmas from Countrywide I guess!!!
