I filed, or thought I filed, my taxes with Credit Karma. I used them since they already had all my financial information. I've waited a few weeks and tried to log in to check the status of my return. I can't log in. Says my account has been deactivated. By whom? They don't know. Okay, how do we solve this I ask. They reply that I have to wait six months and open a new account. It's for my "security". I need to know the status of my filing and they tell me that they will delete my unfiled returns. Returns? I only filed one. Unfiled? Wny didn't they file my return? They don't know but will "escalate" my inquiry. Meanwhile I'm sitting here not knowing if they did or did not file my return.
Caution! Warning! Use a reputable real service. Pay the few dollars. Now I may have the IRS after me for not filing. Fortunately I have all the communications between Credit Karma and myself to show the IRS that I did file.

Don't wait to file your tax return with the IRS

First, I believe you completely that Credit Karma took your information and then deactivated your account.
Having said that, do not wait around for Credit Karma. You still have your tax information, right? You should since you don't have to provide originals to Credit Karma. Go to any legitimate tax service (online or in person) and file your tax return. After all, Credit Karma lost your info and deactivated your account. There is no chance that they will magically find your info and file the tax return.
By the way, the IRS can penalize you for filing late or not filing your tax return at all. Waiting for Credit Karma to get its act together isn't going to help you. The IRS isn't going to give you a break because Credit Karma lost your tax return in their system. Showing the communications you have between you and Credit Karma won't get the IRS off your case. That is not how they work. Protect yourself. File your tax returns again through a legitimate tax service.
