Cymax double billed my credit card for a single transaction and then gave me the run around when I tried to resolve it. I was first told that a preauthorization is done for all online transactions that my next statement would show only a single transaction. I was in fact charged twice (for over $250 each transaction) and when I called back again I was told that only the owner could investigate this and that it could not be done online and I would have to fax or mail a copy of my credit card statement to prove this happened.

No one could tell me when the owner would be back in the office and I was told I would have to wait to speak with her. I called my credit card issuer who said this is nonsense and that any reputable firm should be able to check this instantly and reverse it.

My credit card company was able to immediately tell that I was double billed and removed one of the charges from my bill and the amount is now under dispute with Cymax. I did a search on the Better Business Bureau online site and found that Cymax has an unsatisfactory rating for unanswered complaints. BEWARE!

This customer was in fact double charged, and one charge was reversed by the credit card issuer. At the time this issue took place, only the owner of the company had access to credit card information to protect purchaser's security. We have since taken steps to ensure this kind of double charge is not repeated, and if a customer is double charged (e.g. by clicking twice on a 'pay' button) this can easily be rectified in a secure and timely fashion.

Thank you,

Cymax management

Cymax did resolve this matter. Their explanation was that to due to importance of security and confidentiality of their customer's credit card information, customer service reps do not have access to any information regarding credit card charges. Every other firm I've ever dealt with online or over the phone allows customer service and sales people to perform credit card transactions and resolve simple issues like a double charge, so I'm not sure what to make of this statement. However, while it took several days to accomplish, Cymax did refund my credit card. To their credit, they did sell me a very high quality piece of media storage furniture but their customer service and service policies overall made this an unpleasant experience. Hopefully they can correct this and treat customers like.... customers!
