My brother's fiance and I were excited to both be engaged to, two wonderful men and went to David's Bridal to just get an idea of what kind of dress we wanted. We didn't expect to find "the one" that day but we had. Having little to no money to pay for it, the consultant offered us the 25% down layaway deal. We could keep our dresses on layaway for 60 days as long as we paid at least $5 every two weeks prior to our check-out date.

My check-out price was only about $400 when all was said and done but i still didn't have enough for the 25% down and neither did my soon to be sister and law, whose check-out price was nearly $1000. We were both upset about possibly not being able to get our perfect dresses. My dress was the last of its kind so that made it particularly hard for me to give up so easily.

The consultant had talked to the manager about lowering the price of the down payment and she lowered it to 20% down. Now i was able to pay for the down payment, but having my wedding in August of the next year, i couldn't keep it on layaway for only 60 days and be able to pay it off completely and i couldn't just pay for the whole thing up front. So, then they proceeded to tell us of their "In store Credit card deal", if you qualified, you could just pay it with the credit card and you have 6 months to pay it off. Well, sounds good right?

Unfortunately, we didn't have any established credit at the time. Therefore, we knew the credit company would decline. They did. We were then faced with that dilemma and were pretty upset but kept our cool. It was just, "the dress" but we were in no way the Bridzilla's of the store. We were going to shut it down because we couldn't do anything about it at the time, but the manger came up and talked to us personally. She had informed us that "Company policy states that we can only keep the dress here for 60 days on layaway but it is also manager discretion. As long as you pay a little something every two weeks, i can keep your dresses here." So cool we had it all settled. After having confirmed this with both of our mother's who were there with us and making sure ourselves that we could for sure keep our dresses there with no problems, we were checked out and happy.

The stitch is, we didn't have her write anything down. We only got her number and that was all. 60 days went by and we kept up with our two week payments. Until one day out of the blue, a consultant called us and told us that today was our last day and we had to have the dresses paid for by the end of the month. "Confusion" We had explained to her our situations and we were declined. I had to tell her i would call her back so i could sort everything out because, they had picked a horrible time to tell me this being i had been in and out of the hospital with illness.

When i had called her back and explained that we would try our best to get the money together and would like to sort the situation out with the manager, she said that we could not talk to the manager at the time and that she had already informed her of the situation and gotten conformation that we must had "mistunderstood" ,6 people misunderstanding the same thing (seemed highly unlikely) but i continued to work with her.

She then began telling me we had 2 weeks to pay for the dress after telling me before that we had till the end of the month, it was only the first week of the month.

It seems to me that we were only told we had more than 60 days just so we would pay for the dresses and they could get our money. They told us the white lie just so they could rip out the rug from under us and i don't appreciate it at all. We are highly understanding people and were very patient with everything and to have this done, is ridiculous.

We won't be using their services any longer.
