My plane ticket on Delta cost $109 RT. I had to change the flight, no fault of my own. I was willing to pay the change fee, until I learned that it would be $150, more than my ticket.
Delta has given me a credit of $109. But when I go to use the credit, I will be charged $150, plus another $50 (additional service fee), and the cost of whatever my new flight might be.
Why would I use this credit? It is as if they are stealing my money, not charging a penalty fee. That's because the high fee prohibits me from using my credit. Not only that, this is unfair and irrational.
What choice do I have? My only choice, as per this "change fee" policy, is to give Delta $109 or spend more money in fees if I try to use my credit. As soon as I had to change my ticket, I no longer had any choice except to sacrifice the whole ticket. I would be foolish to pay more money to Delta.
Of course, I would not mind paying a change fee, if it was reasonable and was some % of my original plane ticket. But it's not like that. This is a $150 across the board. That means, they just stole my money and I will not let them steal any more of my money ever again.
I hope you will not fly Delta because if I had known about this Dragonian policy, I would never have chosen Delta to begin with.

#2 Consumer Comment
Southwest not exactly a good alternative

To the fella who endorsed Southwest. I have to disagree. Most of the time SW will have much higher fees than Delta or United and you don't reserve the seat you want. You just have to stand for an hour before boarding and then rush to the plane with a bunch of other passenger and then fight over seats. Delta does s-uck but they still have decent fares compared to other airlines. Because flying with them is cheaper and faster than riding the Greyhound or Amtrak. They charge the high fees to offset the low fares. I wouldn't condemn them

There is an Option

Simply fly Southwest which has no fees except if you check a third bag. If you want to cancel or change a reservation there is no change fee -just a credit of whatever your fare was and you have to use it within a year. People are stupid to fly American, Delta, United etc. I quit when the fees started. If I can't get there by SWA I get as close as I can and rent a car.
