I recently traveled on Delta Airlines. I can tell you from past experiences that they are not my first choice. But sometimes you have to take what you can get. Unfortunately, they lived up to my poor opinion of them yet another time.
I checked in 24 hours prior to my flight online. I paid for one bag via credit card and thought I was good to go. The next morning when I went to check my bag in at the airport, the clerk insisted I had not paid for it. Rather than stand there and argue, I paid again, figuring that it was possible it didn't go through the first time.
The next day I checked my credit card and low and behold, two separate charges for my bag. I immediately emailed Delta and requested a refund. The response I got was a form email basically saying we can't find the duplicate charges. Please send this and this and fax this and this and we'll look into it. Good grief! The charges are on my credit card, they showed up a day after they were charged. There is no excuse for Delta to not be able to find any sign of the transactions.
I ended up emailing Delta again, none to happy about the response. I sent them transaction numbers for both charges. I then got a response saying they would credit my account for the extra charge but it may take a while. Why is it when I pay, the charge shows up very quickly? But when it's a credit situation, it can take weeks for it to show up.
I can't say that I'm surprised at this incident. Delta continuously has issues. Given a choice, I would never use them. Unfortunately, I don't always have that choice. And again, unfortunately, they continue to make me wish I did!

airlines

I fly a lot, as do many of my family members. The lack of customer service is prevalent in many of the different airlines, except Southwest. They have truly outstanding customer service each and every time I call. It doesn't cost anything to be nice to the customer, and say, "Gee, let me look into that because we want your business."  When customer service returns to the airline industry we'll all be happier.

Gee Will, I'm so glad you were able to get that off your chest. Nothing like a little psychotic ranting and raving to make a person feel better. Bitter much?

You must be the biggest moron on the planet!!  Airline employees have been laid off by the THOUSANDS and the rest have taken pay cuts or a pay freeze.  9-11-2001,economy,and poor management has really killed the airline industry. If you pull your head out of the hole it's in, you will notice the american worker is vastly becoming a slave labor/ minimum wage earner. Your post should be on IDIOT report instead of ripoff report.

I think Delta is horrid, but in my opinion all US based carriers are horrible!  If you ever have a chance to fly a foreign carrier you will see how good air travel can be.  I believe the problem is mostly greedy union employees that are not able to be fired as long as they do the bare minimum.  If you ever have the opportunity, fly from your city to an international huvb city on a us based carrier, then fly over seas on a non-us (and non Euro) carrier.  (My favorite is Thai, but JAL, Korean, Singapore, China Air are all great)  You will be shocked at how much better the foreign carrier is, how much nicer and more respectful the staff is - they treat you like you are the customer - the most inportant guy in the room, as opposed to the US carriers, where the employees act like they are the most important people there, and your role is to be super thankful for whatever minimal service they deem to provide.  Also - remember the rather large flight attendant who scowls at you, smells like garlic, throws you some peanuts, and bumps you every time she walks by because she is almost can't fit through the isle?  Most of the Asian carriers find other jobs for stewardesses once they hit about 30, or if they start to get large, and none of them look like teenage mutant ninja turtles.
