Synopsis: Discover Card only pays 0.25% Cash Back on the FIRST $3000.00 in purchases starting on you ANNIVERSARY date and resetting EVERY year.  Most other "cash back" credit cards state the rates on every bill and every communication, generally 1% Cash Back from the get-go and more on specific items (gas, restaurants, et cetera_.  DISCOVER does not post this information anywhere that I can see in any of their information packets "Explanation of Changes to your Cardmember Agreement".  I called DISCOVER to complain that I only received $3.00 on over $1400.00 worth of purchases and was told that the first $3000.00 of purchase starting with EVERY anniversary date only gets 0.25% Cash Back.  I said I did not know this, was transferred to a supercilious Supervisor who assured me that this was in my customer information packets and offered to send me the packet.  The packet he sent arrived several days later and had NO information about the first $3000.00 being 0.25%.  The only statements in that packet and previous ones (I save them) was that you could earn "Up to 1% Unlimited Cashback Bonus on all your other purchases" after specifying 2% on Gas and Auto Maintenance.

I have been a member since 1986 and never knew there was this $3000.00 requirement.  NOTE that after the $3000.00 requirement is fulfilled, you only get 1% cash back on most items.  Other credit cards are not only far more generous, but also spell out the rules on each and every bill or communication.

It sounds like they maybe sent you a seperate document. Whatever card that you choose to have all earn cashback similar ways. You are right, cash back an be accumulated with every purchase made with the card starting at 0.25% to 1% every anniversary year that you opened the card. Also you can earn cash back by signing up for different quartly catagories every three months that allow you to earn 5% cashback on these catagories. The open road card allows you to earn 2% cash back on gas and resturant purchases up to $250 each month. The miles card allows you to earn 1 mile for every dollar spent. We also suggest you make a purchase through our website shopdiscover.com. There, you are allowed to earn anywhere from 5-20% cash back through any merchant.  I'm sorry about your experience. I hope this helps.
