I was to have my service moved by the "Mover"Program. Yesterday the technician came over to inform me I am unable to receive service due to line of sight issues. He contacted customer service to advise me I still would be required to pay for a service even though I could not receive service. Ethically I had a problem with this. I was put on the phone with a "Supervisor" by the name of Paul LS 7? I explained my dilemma and he stated his job was to "ENFORCE" the contract that I apparently
signed, he said he was customer "ENFORCEMENT" not Customer service. I have been in the customer service/Construction Management business for 27 years and I was applaud at the verbosity of your "Supervisor" He continued to tell me it was not his fault I moved to a place that was unable to get Dish service. I explained to him the move was done out of necessity due to a family tragedy. He could have cared less. Even your installer was shocked at his aggressiveness. By the way the tragedy was my Sons attempted suicide! Thanks for caring DISH.

I am shocked that your company is so over the top aggressive about collecting for services that can not be given. Especially when it is no fault of my own. The right thing to do from a customer service stand point is to say we are sorry and let me go so I will come back again in the future.

I am so disgusted that if not let out of my contract I will continue to spread my story.

YOU CLEARLY WORK FOR DISH DAMAGE CONTROL.

AUTHOR: HLIWS - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, March 01, 2013

The difference with a cell phone is you can still use the service when in a covered area since it is mobile, thus you can still utilize the service they may be charging you for. Last time I checked I couldn't strap the Dish to my back and drive down the road to pick up a signal and utilize the service. The installer told me that "Other" satellite providers (including non dish corp installers) use a tripod mount which would allow me to get service but Dish Corp only uses a floor mount, thus I did move to a location that could get the service but DISH Corp does not use the equipment need for my location. That doesn't seem to be my fault.

DISH is providing me the consumer nothing. They are just Bullying the consumer. There is a thing called the "Spirit of the contract" and by forcing a stipulation on a consumer the damage by negative word of mouth is ten times what Dish will ever recoup by forcing such stipulation. Its equivalent to spending $10 to make $5. Bad business model, just ask the cell phone companies that are being destroyed by the "No Contract" carriers!  TIME WARNER Cable is now going "No Contract" with no up front fees. I wonder why.

I had SIRRIUS/XM satellite radio for years. I was on a contract. When I sold my car with the satellite radio in it they graciously cancelled my contract with no fees. That is why I will always recommend them to others.

As a DISH employee or IT watch dog I know you have to take this position but you know 99% of consumers, including yourself would agree the policy is not fair, and if it is fair then put it in large font bold type on contract and be proud of it!

No, you've got it wrong....

"ITS A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE"

It's actually a matter of CONTRACT.

This is NOT the same as cell phone service where the  cell coverage may be sketchy.

ALL satellite TV service reguires a clear line of site from the south...this is necessary because the satellites are placed in this specific position to be in synchronous orbit and remain in a fixed place in relation to the earth's rotation.  YOU moved, no line of site...Dish did NOT violate the terms or "Principles" of their service.

Nope, I don't work for them.

ITS A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE

AUTHOR: HLIWS - (United States of America)

Its the principle of the matter. They can not provide a service and thus a consumer should not have to pay. Even cellular contracts have a provision saying they will provide coverage and if unable essentially they are required to cancel agreement.

Most importantly the contracts are now signed on a 4" electronic tablet which does not allow you to see the entire agreement.

The original installation took 30 mins thus they can not claim they need to cover initial install costs.

Good customer service is to allow the customer to move on and hope in the future they return and speak highly of you.

You really should have read "that paper" you signed when your original service was installed...

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 27, 2013

YOU agreed to a two year contract with a pro-rated early cancellation penalty.  In lieu of charging a large installation fee, it's pro-rated over two years to recover equipment and installation costs.  The contract makes NO mention of them "forgiving" the penalty if you move and are unable to receive service, they still incurred the fixed costs they are trying to recover now.

No, I do NOT work for Dish, but am a charter subscriber and am generally satisfied with the service they provide.

When I got my service, there were no contracts, but I paid $800 for two receivers and the installation.

I think I like the new way better.

Call Corporate

I don't know if policy has changed but I used to work for Dish and they would always allow someone to cancel if the line of sight couldn't be achieved.

Might have just been a supervisor on his high horse.
