Dollar Rent A Car Bogus Toll Charges Fort Myers, Florida

My husband and I rented a car from Dollar Rent A Car at Fort Myers Airport from Feb. 1- Feb. 12/2010. We live in Canada and we recently purchased a vacation home in Cape Coral Florida. We spent our entire time in Cape Coral with the exception of 1 day in Fort Myers.

On letterhead from Dollar Rent A car dated March 2/2010, we received notice that we had incurred 12 violations(at $25/violation admin charge) plus $13.65 in toll charges.

We were informed that we should contact Vehicle.Violation@dtag.com or call 866-255-0794 if we had any questions. A total of over $300 had already been charged to our credit card. I checked the locations of the toll charges and they went from Orlando to Miami. We never went to Orlando or Miami!

I phoned the company and they said they would look into it. They emailed us shortly after to notify us that they had refunded $150 of the charges but were waiting to see photos before refunding the rest. I later spoke to a woman who claimed that the photos were in and that yes, the license plate matched ours! I exclaimed, "but we never were in these places!" I then asked her to email me the photos, which she did.

The photos were at first shocking. Here was our license plate at the supposed toll booth, but wait. Several photos looked like they could be in a parking lot. A few appeared on the toll highway, but upon closer examination the car beside our vehicle was the same car at different times in the day. How can that be? A clear scam. I emailed Dollar an told them about their bogus pictures, and told them to refund our money NOW!!

Don't rent from this company!! They are scam artists. I have since gone online and I'm not the only one. I will also be contacting the Lee County Sheriff department to see what can be done.
