Do not pay for an Elite Warranty unless you want to be extremely frurstrated and give your money away. They find every possible way to wiggle out of claims based on fine print and technicalities which they invent as they go.
On two occasions I was denied a claim for legitimate services. The first occasion I had a thermostat that went bad but since the housing was also recommended to be replaced they denied the claim stating that the thermostat repair was a result of the housing and not the inverse which is the way the mechanic described it.
On the second occasion I had a breakdown and had to have my car towed. Since I didnt have my contract in my car I called to arrange a tow and then sent in the claim for reimbursement. They said that since I didn't call their 800# first they wouldn't cover it. While this is in the contract, they could easily recognize that most people don't carry their contracts in their car and should be willing to give at least partial reimbursement.
Before you purchase a warranty with them, make sure to read the fine print and see that everything is stacked in their favor. It is a waste of money in my opinion and had the car salesman not so highly endorsed the policy and given me adequate time to read it I probably would not have purchased it.

The dealership makes lots of money off of bogus warranties

The last paragraph in your post out to be highlighted and in bold.
Vehicle warranties are revenue generators for the F&I office at the dealership - any dealership. The sole purpose is to have you pay a large amount for the warranty so the dealership and the finance person can reap huge commissions from the sale of the overpriced warranty. GAP at the dealership works the same way. At least with GAP you can purchase a decent policy for less outside the dealership. Not so with a vehicle warranty - have NOT seen a good one yet.
Before you buy a warranty - read the warranty contract (if the finance person will let you). If s/he doesn't let you, don't get it, even if it is "free". There is no free warranty. It shows up as a higher price on your vehicle.
I haven't found a good warranty in decades. By good, I mean one that is worth the cost and will actually pay on claims. Far better to set aside those warranty funds in your own account and use for repairs. That's what I do - and I have saved thousands of dollars over the years paying for my own repairs without the help of any ripoff warranty policy.
Please note: if you recently purchased a warranty - read it. You will see many exceptions in the policy and it is probably worth the time and effort to cancel it and get a refund for the pro-rated amount. The dealership will not make it easy to get a refund. Be persistent.
