I received an offer in the mail telling me that my old debt would be wiped clean and I'd receive a credit card from Embrace Visa. Little did I know that this was all a sham and this was only offered because my old account was almost seven years old. At the time I didn't know my financial rights and was happy to start what I thought was a new credit history. Boy was I wrong!!! On top of the high interest rates I started having problems with my account. I always paid online from the time I opened the account atleast two weeks before payment was due (automatic payments). Lately I have been receiving letters about my payments not going through. The first time it happened Embrace tried to blame it on my credit union, which they had nothing to do with it. I argued for days until finally someone from my bank talked to the rep and the late fee was reversed. The late fee was reversed but they still had it on my account that I was late. So recently it happened again, I called customer service twice and received someone who could barely speak english and had a bad attitude. I was told the same B/S as before and they claimed that their was no record of this happening before they just showed that I was late making a payment. What I tried to explain was that my account is automatically charged and that no new info was put in for payment to be rejected. It just seems to me that someone made a mistake (AGAIN) on their part and they don't want to own up to it. Now I don't feel safe making payments to these guys over the internet, and I'll make sure to pay by check until my account is paid off and then I'll gladly close my account. It couldn't hurt my credit more than it has.

Pay Using USPS Is Wise...

If you are really concerned make sure you send certified
mail return receipt. Most credit card companies and banks have forgotten their
original purpose, to provide a service, and have taken as their focus raising their profit margin. They do not get it. If you make everyone poor by tying
up funding and loans, and heap too many fees onto people, then they will not be
able to pay what is due. This is a loose loose scenario. Then when they raise the interest rates so they are basically
obscene (once called USURY), well that combined with late payment fees, almost crush
any person trying to do the right thing. The banks have changed the bankruptcy
laws by lobby so they have intentionally tied up all the ways that the poor
folk can escape their clutches. Statistically it has been shown that poor folk
want to pay so they can find credit or take out loans, the only way to handle
life emergencies and with this practice of tying the people up financially and legally there is no way out. The Benjamin
Franklin adage penny wise and pound-foolish comes to mind. The insanity of short-term
profit over long-term financial stability doesnt work.
If you already do not
do this maybe keeping a record or budget might be helpful? I know that this approach
has helped me through some difficult financial problems it also works at tax
crunch time to make the accounting easier for the best income return. But do
not expect any help from the greedy banks!
