I have dealt with Empire on 2 occasions:

First, I got a bid on a rental property I own in Mesa. I always get 4 bids so I have a full spectrum of competition with contractors for my properties. This rental had 3 very small rooms. The young man they sent was very nice and professional; he did his measurments, wrote up everything, had me select the carpet and padding, which I chose the cheapest carpet, padding. His bid total, including installation was over $1750 + tax ! All other bids were $750-850 and included removal of the old carpet and padding. Obviously we went with the other bids. What was even more weird, I received a call from a "manager" (I think his name was Charles) at the last minute, who dropped their bid from $1900 to $1200  .. why didn't they just bid it competitively to begin with? Also, the bid did NOT include a breakdown of measurements, materials, labor or taxes. I requested this on 3-4 occasions and could not get it.

 

Today I had an appointment for Empire to come to my personal residence to bid the replacement for over 8000 sf of tile, carpet and wood floors. They gave me a 2 hour window (from 8-10am). I took off from work to be here and no one has showed up or called. I have called and keep getting told "they should be here soon", but nothing. They have wasted my entire morning (from 8am-12pm) and I am totally pissed. This is the last straw for me with these clowns. It is now 130pm.

 

I don't know what their structure is, but I suspect most of the work is subcontracted out, including the person who comes out and gives you the bid. 

 

In this economy, I would NEVER miss an opportunity for get new business. I was in the flooring business for many years and the margins in carpet, tile and wood flooring are very profitable. Seeing how Empire's bids are generally so much higher than everyone else, I would assume they are making a substantial profit; so how could they not show up for an appointment for over 8000 sf of high-end flooring?

 

I was reading other complaints on RipoffReport, the BBB and the Internet and Empire has a ton of complaints and especially missed appointments here in Arizona. What is wrong with Steven Silvers, the Manager for the past 6-7 years here in AZ? If you read their website, they make it seem like this guy is a rock star, but how can you be when you have all these no show appointments.

 

Hey Steven (Silvers), peoples time is valuable, especially mine. I do not appreciate having it wasted by your employees who cannot show up within a 4 hour window .. I have far better things to do and this is 4 hours that I will never get back. I do not appreciate it, and I am sure all the other consumers you (or your people) failed to show for appointments do not appreciate it either. How can you disregard & disrespect people and their time, by not showing up or even a courtesy call? This is a reflection on you. Remember, the attitude in a company always metriculates from the boss downwards .. and here in Arizona it is obvious what your attitude is toward the consumer and the respect (or lack thereof) you have for them.

 

I could not recommend this company. The 2 times I have dealt with them has been such a waste for obvious reasons cited above.
