I became a member in 1988 or so and enjoyed the Thousand Trails campgrounds in Virginia with my kids.  After they were grown and gone, I tried terminating my membership by phone and written letters several times from 2004 to 2007 but kept getting annually billed in spite of them.

In January of 2008, I sent them my original (carbon) copy of my contract with "VOID AND RESCINDED" written across it on the advice of a lawyer friend.  This was because the contract had no clause for termination, and this was the only way he thought I could end it.

Every spring since then I'm still getting phone calls and nasty letters in the mail saying my account is in arrears and I MUST bring it up to date.  The last was three weeks ago in 2013!  What is with these people?  I keep telling them that I no longer have a contract (and don't even have a copy of the original!), but they keep insisting I owe them money! 

All I can say to anyone contemplating getting a membership with these people is to run, not walk, away as fast as you can.  The ambiance and nice campgrounds are NOT worth the grief you'll get from the owners!
