After deciding to build a house we landed with austin at fairway mortgage. After meeting we discovered that building was going to be out of our price range. He quoted us a pre approval at $115000. After months of searching we found a nice little house for $124000. We managed to come up with $10000 for a down payment. Only to find that after all the contracts, and hiring an inspector, that due to some random tax, for that particular house we would only be approved for $94,000. Leaving us to come up with the rest as a down payment. Disappointing. During the whole process a mysterious foreclosure was on my wifes credit report. A foreclosure from her 7 year old previous marriage. To which her name was never attached to that house, loan, or refinance. We asked austin if that can be fixed since a. its completely not true. And b. her ex husband still lives in the house and is currently under ZERO threat of foreclosure. To which he advised to just lt it go to avoid a contested something or other on our report. Great advice right? So fools that we are we trusted his judgement. And now that these issues with our house have come up, austin rattles off this list of reasons why its not working, and that mythical non-existent foreclosure, is right at the top. Thanks austin! Fortunately for him he is dealing with my wife, who has a level head and is way less likely to head up to his office for a face to face. So long story short we're shopping around for another mortgage company, maybe one who can give us an approval amount that doesn't mysteriously fluctuate up and down thirty grand. And maybe if we're REALLY lucky we can find one staffed by competent people.
