I have been with Ferrellgas for appro. 5 years within the last 9 months they have closed all their local offices, these offices are now used for drivers only.
The price of their propane went to $2.69. I can buy locally at $1.95. We are both seniors with SS as our only income.

With this in mind I wrote to Ferrellgas closing my account explaining my reasons letter dated 01/06/06.
About 3 weeks later a Ferrellgas truck pulls up to deliver propane, I intercepted the driver and explained to that I had closed the account.

In the meantime I had numerous calls to customer service about picking up their gas tank, We agreed that I would call them when I had used the remainder of my fuel in the tank, which amounted to 25 Gal.

On 03/02/06 we arrived back home to find a bill on the front door Ferrellgas had delivered 150 Gal of propane.
I contacted customer service who said they would look into it.

Then I start getting the bills for this fuel.
I contact customer service to request they pick up their tank, they inform me it is going to cost me $0.50 a gal to pump that fuel out before they can collect. This really upset me.

Finally they came and collected the tank 05/18/06 with the 175 gal still in it including my 25 gal which was my property.

Last night at 7 pm I get a phone call from an unlisted number, it was Ferrellgas wanting to know what I am going to do about their bill as it was now 3 months overdue.

If anyone out there is considering using Ferrellgas for their propane, I would advise against it.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

A Suggestion for Other Customers

AUTHOR: Annie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 16, 2006

John,

I am truly sorry, I do not have a suggestion for your situation. I truly hope you can come to an agreement with Ferrellgas.

For other propane/fuel oil customers who may face the same situation, I can suggest this. Once you cancel your account put a padlock on the intake pipe. It costs about $5 and if you have padlocked your delivery pipe, the company simply cannot deliver an unwanted product.

We experienced similar circumstances when we switched our furnace from fuel oil to propane. We called the fuel oil company and asked them to cancel our service. Friends suggested we padlock the intake pipe for our fuel oil tank as a precaution and we did. We did the same thing when we switched from propane to wood (we padlocked the cover to the propane tank).

Amazingly we had delivery trucks attempt to make a delivery for both systems after we had submitted cancellation notices in writing to both companies. Because our intake pipes were padlocked, they couldn't deliver anything and we were able to settle our accounts.

I know it is sad when consumers have to resort to such tactics to protect themselves, but I hope this post with help others in the same situation.
