I work for an online retailer and we recently purchased a product that was supposed to make an exact backup copy of the hard drive on one of our computers. We backed it up fine but when we tried to test it to see if it worked, we ran into some problems.

We went to www.fixya.com and paid $19.95 to have a "professional" help us with the problem. One of the guarantees was that they would fix the problem before the session ended. Not the case.

The tech we chatted with was less than unhelpful. He would take 10 to 15 minutes to reply to questions we asked and the answers he gave were either inaccurate or irrelevant.

We are in the process of trying to get our money back now, and will report how that goes.

Who to tell

AUTHOR: Bob_Computer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 02, 2011

You should contact lauren@fixya.com

She does not like to deal with these issues but is one of the prime people you need to speak to

Failing that you could try yaniv2fixya.com

The expert name that you spoke to would also be very useful as a warning to others.

There are expert on FixYa who's standarsd and knowledge are very high but as with any crowd sourced site there are also bad apples and I can only suggest that you got oneI am afraid.

FixYa is attempting to adress some of these bad apples with the introduction of a more PRO/ELITE system shortly which resides between JustAnswer (a much better site) and yahoo etc.

the new program looks to adress many of the quality issues that are still rife on Fixya so talk to Lauren and I am sure she will help you.

As I was the one attacked on this site by the person who i was trying to help I wish for this report of abuse to be removed. Since all I did was give the person the choice to file for a refund and she got it she ignores the posts that have been put here it is of slanderous of my professional integrity when all I did was try to help her to get a refund. Since I could have helped her with her computer problem she refused to allow me to and decided to report fix-ya and myself as a rip off I fell that this should be taken down since she has not responded to the rebuttal or the answers supplied here.

As well This site not pulling it down after all the real information was filed this site is degrading my expertise as well and if not taken down I will file suit for allowing incorrect information to be posted about me and against  me when the person had no facts in her complaint and her basis for here complaint was from her ignorance for not reading the Terms of service and understanding them to get her problem resolved. since I use the same user name on other sites it hurts my personal integrity so If this does not get removed I will seek legal action against the individual person and the rip off site. And the TOS of ripoff site does not protect it from slander.

Um, yeah for Misty.......

I feel obligated to respond to your query about Avid101 being an A1+ Certified Master Mechanic and what it had to do with a software complaint.

I have used Fixya a number of times, as well as other 'Crowd Sourcing' sites. With these type of models there are good experts and there are bad experts. I was lucky enough to get Avid on my second go around and now I ask for him specifically.

Avid is perhaps the most experienced effective remote support professional I've ever worked with through a screen. During one session, while waiting on my second computer to reboot, the subject of his certifications came up. He has well over thirty of them, including A+ certified computer technician, just like you. And he does work on cars, lol.

He was being polite by establishing he was a certified professional without feeling the need to overly state his bona-fides, without being snooty.

Fixya has a 100% Satisfaction guarantee, basically ask for your money back and it's yours. It's on every screen.

Although he was not the expert you were dealing with, he took the responsibility of trying to make things right for you. His post was apologetic and helpful. He was pointing you in the right direction, trying to help you get your money back.

And for his trouble you repay him with condescension and a laughing dismisal.

I cannot help but wonder if you you have any 'problems' that you, yourself, aren't at least partially responsible for.

Avid stepped up to the plate when no one else did. I'm going to end this now with IMHO you owe him an apology.

BTW - The information on his post is still useful should you decide to make use of it..

I was just wondering what the hell being a certified AUTO MECHANIC has to do with fixing computers? I am an A+ certified computer technician and I don't work on cars LOL

computer repair experts

AUTHOR: avid101 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, December 12, 2009

I have been a member for this company since may of 2008 I repair computers and am a master certified auto and truck mechanic. Since working for them I have found they Guarantee to fix your problem and if youre not satisfied you can always get another expert. If you don't read their terms of service and don't understand how to get another expert to talk with that can solve your problem, however it has been my experience that we have fixed problems and only after we fix the problem the costumer wants his money back. Fixya Gives their money back if you request it, and they give you three times to accept the problem solved before they charge your credit card. If you every use fix ya and the tech takes longer than 10 minutes to answer all you do is close the chat box or end session, at this tie it gives you the option to accept the chat session or reject the chat session, if you reject it out right they will ask if you want to speak with a different expert you can choose to do so at this time or end your session, If however you are not satisfied with your answer all you have to do is reject the answer and you will not be charged. If you have this sort of problem and you have someone begging you to accept the chat then you should get the experts name and send a copy of the chat to Lauren@fixya.com or support @fixya.com they will give you a refund. We are in the process of weeding out people who are supposed to be experts and removing them from the site. So you have 4 chances not to accept the answer and not have to pay. Myself If I cannot solve the problem I send you to a different expert to see if they can fix it then if they can't I tell the person how to get a refund if they were not helped. I am sorry you experienced this problem but we area new start up company and all companies have problems that have to be dealt with and the bugs have to be found, so Please dont let this experience jade you from trying again. If you still have a problem post here and I will be sure you get the help you need or your money back whatever it takes to make it right. We have implemented new rules and regulations so stop these sorts of things happening including removing bad experts.

Avid101 Fixya expert.
