Frys had placed a motherboard and chip on sale. I purchased the sale item on August 1. Had to buy a new tower as well. Power unit on tower went out appx 33 days later. They had a 30 day return policy even though the manufacturer has a much longer policy from 1 to 5 years depending on component.

After a 15 mile drive to the store and an hours of hassle they finally replaced the power unit. I asked if this could harm the mother board or chip and their tech said that they would be fine.

October the system started freezing and shutting down on it's own. I called Frys and talked to Steve a techie there. He said "Bring it in and we will replace it." I asked if he was sure and he said "Yes bring it in." Loaded the system in my car and drove 15 miles to their location. Get in the return line with 20 other people. (It should tell you something when they have so many people doing returns.)

Get to the counter and get told I am out of their warrently period. I repeat my conversation with the Technician and ask to speak to the store manager. I am told the store manager is not available. The return person went to the repair department and comes back and tells me the techie said he never said that. Now I am mad.

I again ask to speak to the store manager and I get the return department manager who gets the techie who lies about the conversation. Saying that he told me that they would only replace it if it was under warrenty. A lie. I would not drive 15 miles on a statement like that. I would have asked to speak to the manager on the phone. Bottom line is that I was told that if I had purchased their extended warrenty for extra money they would help me.

I had to go to another store and pay $35 to have the system tested to see if it was the mother board, the processor chip or both. Turned out it was the mother board.

I have returned the board to the manufacturer for a replacement since they have a three year warranty. I was without a computer for about 5 weeks and finally went back to the store that conducted the test for me (Discount Electronics) and purchase another board for $49.00. It is now February and I still do not have a return on that board I sent in.

Any time I inquire about the board they will not respond until I dig out the return merchandise number. This company is in japan. Last time I provided the number they could not find the order for a while but then found it and said the board had been return mailed. this was the first part of January. Still no board. The AMD processor chip is doing well. I have never had a problem with them. The replacement mother board is working well.

Had Frys provided quality customer service I would have been back in business within hours instead of weeks. Frys has lost a good customer over this and hopefully others as well. I have read the other reports and found them to be accurate and true. Frys is a ripoff company that works by sheer volume of cheating people and providing piss poor customer service. For $49 they would still have a customer making purchases with them. Now I will only deal with Discount Electronics. Good folks who will talk with you as a customer, not like you're an idiot for not following their policies.
