General Electric poorly designed GE washing machine rips my clothes. GE's insurance co. wants a technician to look at the problem so they have a written report. Fine, but GE won't send someone free of charge... they want me to pay $99.00 and don't plan to reimburse me! Are you kidding?!!! Howell New Jersey

I purchased a GE washing machine. Within several months I pulled a few articles of clothing out of the washing machine that were either ripped or so stretched out that they were ruined. The machine was also pulling all the drawstrings out of clothing that had a drawstring, even if I tied them before washing. I finally realized after five shirts were ruined that spaghetti strap sleeves on shirts and strings were getting caught in a notch that each agitator contains. The strings slide up under the agitator and catch in the notch which in turn get stretched and/or rip during the spin cycle. This is a design flaw in this washing machine.

When I contacted GE about this washing machine they gave me the phone number for their insurance company. They also said that I would have to have a technician come out to write a report about the problem with the washing machine. When I asked if they would cover the $99.00 cost of the technician being that their machine was defective and ruining my clothes, they told me they would not and that it was my responsibility to pay this fee!

I next contacted the insurance company. They told me an adjuster would contact me within a few days, but in the mean time, I was to make an appointment with GE to have a technician come out to check the machine. Again, when I asked if the insurance company would reimburse me for this charge they told me they would not and that I needed to speak with GE about this. I explained that GE also claimed that they would not cover the cost for the technician. The insurance company said that it was not their responsibility and that they absolutely had to have a report from a technician in order to reimburse me for the damaged clothing.

My ruined clothing, which I kept so that I can show them, is worth about $100.00 so for me to put the money out to pay the technician makes no sense! This is so unfair that their machine ruins my clothes and will continue to do so and I have no recourse unless I want to put out the $100.00. I don't even know if I paid the technician's fee and got the report, that the insurance company would reimburse me anyway.

I am at my end with this company. I will never purchase anything made by GE again and would advise anyone who is considering a GE appliance to purchase from a better company who doesn't try to rip off it's consumer!
