I received charges on my phone bill for collect calls made to my fax machine from an institutional facility. For one, I don't know anybody in this facility that I would even be talking to, and two, I don't even have a phone connected to my fax machine, so it's impossible for me to even accept a collect call if I wanted to.
I had a really hard time getting a hold of anyone on GTL's phone number to dispute these charges. I would wait forever for a service rep, then the recording would tell me to leave my name and phone number for a call back. I would do so, and they wouldn't call me back. After about 5 attempts of this I figured out that when they would call back, if I didn't answer (because I'm trying to work at the same time), they would just hang up, not even leaving me a message that they tried getting a hold of me. I eventually figured out for myself that it was up to me to call back, leave my name and phone number again, and wait for a call back again hoping that I was available to pick up next time.
After finally catching the phone I spoke to a Jessica who heard my story, and after about 20 minutes of talking to her she said she needed to transfer me to another department. Well, she transferred me directly into another voicemail. I left a detailed message with the number they charged the calls to and my contact number. This was 14 days ago, and I still have not gotten a response from them.
Now when I call, I don't even get to leave my name and number. The recording just says that the call volume is too high and I have to call back later.
This is totally ridiculous!!

I had a collect call billed from a prison in Ohio and I don't know anyone in prison or in Ohio. She gave me a hard time about taking it off my bill but I believe that inmates have cards and randomly call people collect to incur charges. Then if you answer because you don't know who it is, they still get money and the inmate probably gets compensation. I did not answer but they say I did and I was not home at the time.
