I had to go on disability in Dec 2007 and lost my health insurance, so when I saw HCCUA's ad on TV, I called. I told them up front that I had a pre-existing condition and was told that it didn't matter, I would still be accepted. So I enrollled and have paid for seen months now. I have been to the doctor once and they refused to pay because of a pre-existing condition. I cancelled this policy yesterday because I am just throwing money down the toilet with them. I think everyone should be aware of what a rip-off this company is!

This former Member is correct. A pre-exisiting condition does not exclude anyone from membership, but the Member will not receive coverage for the same condition if they have been treated for that condition within the last 6 months. This exclusion applies for a period of 12 months following enrollment.

All members are told PRIOR to enrollment about the pre-ex clause and are required to acknowledge their understanding of this condition during a RECORDED verification call prior to enrolling. In addition, all members are given a Program Handbook which explains in detail the benefits and coverage available, including any exclusions.

This former Member's recording clearly reveals that she was told about the pre-ex condition and verified her understanding of it. She then enrolled for Membership.

Sincerely,
Dr. Damgaard
Executive Director, HCCUA
