I travel often and do my own research and book online.
After considerable research, I was on Expedia's site and page that contained a listing for
the Hotel Angeleno, 3.5 stars, $206/night, location Brentwood/ West LA - the same page
showed Hot Wire's special:
4 star offer for Century City/ Westwood
Priced at $151/night.  Average price for this class $313/night.
The pop-up for "Hotels in this class" showed: Palomar ($346), Inter Continental LA ($469),
Beverly Hilton ($302), Luxe Hotel, Sunset Blvd. ($313) & Avalon ($270).
Their Map: was not exactly accurate or limited to Westwood or Century City, but included West LA
and Brentwood (a thin band that was on the westside of the 405 Frwy.

I spoke at length to 3 different supervisors to no avail. *Their map was drawn to include the hotel in its northern most corner (no other site (12) includes the Angeleno in Century City - some include it the Westwood/ Brentwood  location.
*The Angeleno Star Rating is subjective - although the 5 pop-up hotels all had unanimous 4 Stars from 12 other major on-line travel sites - on the same 12 sites, just 5 gave the Angeleno 4 Stars, 6 gave it 3.5, and Kayak awarded it only 3 Stars.
*The very low listed price of the Angeleno had no bearing on my case as far as Hot Wire was concerned -
They were able to average out by including the InterContinental in the group.
*The 5 pop-up "hotels in the class" has become more infuriating - of the 5 above, as previously stared all have unanimous 4 Star ratings, but as of yesterday the Avalon has been replaced by you guessed it, the Angeleno.
*One last word about the Angeleno, it is located just off the 405 Frwy, one of LA's busiest - check out customer comments (even on Hotwire's site)-apparently half the rooms are exposed to constant Freeway
noise.
So beware of choosing from a Hot Wire Star group - there will be one LOWBALL HOTEL in every STAR group that just happens to become your "confirmed" hotel.
