IADT Pittsburgh Glad my teacher told me about this site. IADT Pgh is a RIPOFF Pgh Pennsylvania

I am in my last term at IADT Pgh in the justice tech. program. I wish I knew 2 years ago what I do now. IADT led me to believe that I would qualify for glamourous jobs in the evidence field. Thier commercials show a lot of neat technology and show people performing the types of tasks that I someday hope to.

When I came in to see the school I was told by the executive dean of education or something like that that I would be able to land a job making alot of money. She told me that I could go to the FBI, any federal job, or even work as a police officer.

I decided to enroll and my dad paid almost $24000 for my tuition and room and board. After I moved in I found out that I'd be living in the Hill District which is one of Pgh's worst and most crime ridden neighborhoods. My room and board fees were almost $14000 four 2 years but when I talked to the owner of the building he told me my rent was only $350 a month. The school charged my dad for alot more than they paid. I did get my "free" laptop only to find out that it was a reconditioned return and that everything the person who owned it before me did was on my hard drive. This made for some interesting computer forensics classes though. I was also told that I would get an associated degree, however that is untrue. The school is not allowed to give degrees in criminal justice. I found that out by talking to a guy from the PA Dept of Higher Education.

Like everyone else said, the professors tried to teach but were always disrupted or told how to teach. I saw students come to class, never take finals and tests, and still receive honor roll status to keep them coming. I know of a student specifically (A good friend of mine) that slept through one class entirely, I know the professor failed her because he told me he did and she still got a B and honor roll without ever going to class, doing homework, or taking tests.

I am in the first cohort so I'm done in June. While I've been here the school has changed alot. When I first started the professors were all great. But the administrators fired most of them for refusing to bend the rules and for teaching as any good teacher would. I know that a few teachers were fired because they flat out refused to pass students that were failing. I also was in a class were a teacher was an expert in the class and had to use a book that was 26 years old and outdated. He said that the school had a contract with some company and had to use there books so he just copied a newer book for us on the copier and allowed us to use it. And the school also really jacks the price of books up. I spend almost $400 a semester on books that may be worth $150.

The school is very unorganized. The lab we were supposed to use didn't even exist when I took the forensics classes. We did some experiments in a classroom and that was all. Now they have a great crime lab, but no supplies and they got rid of the 2 teachers that specialized in forensics so that the new deans buddy could teach it and he is clueless. Like the other teachers said. IADT is all about making money and they don't care about us students. I applied for internships in my field to be told that they would never allow an IADT student to intern there. The students here have a bad reputation and most are criminals, drug dealers, and gang bangers. Alot bring drugs to school and carry guns. I saw a student get beat up real bad while a dean stood by and watched then the guy that beat him up was never punished, even after he got out of jail for the fight. I even think they gave him honor roll because the threatened to drop out.
Please, do not come here to IADT. You won't learn anything and you surely will not be able to find a prestigious job in law enforcement.
