Runescape, A popular MMORPG, whose target audience is the teen market has implemented a new spin to win feature inside of their game. It is bad enough that this encourages gambling to those that are not allowed to do so legally.
The argument they give on the official RuneScape forums is that it is not considered gambling, since you win an item every time you spin. They have added a "buyable" spins option to this now. Parents agreed to the terms of service of x amount of dollars per month for their children to play this game.
A player who is not legally allowed to make purchases on the guardians credit or debit card can buy more spins up to $200.00 US dollars per day. That could be upwards of over $600.00 charged before the parent even knows what hit them.
Jagex have also changed their terms of service policy to state that you are responsible for any charges that a third party makes to your account. (the third party being the child here, is a parent really going to sue their child or take them to court)
It may not be legally considered gambling, since the items have no worth outside of the game, but it is encouraging gambling. This company and all the investment companies have hit a new low praying on children and gambling addictions.
All the companies involved in supporting this unethical behavior are corrupt. I will not be allowing my children to log into any of their games anymore. I also would like answers as to why they think or thought this would be okay.

Fixed the Security but not the Terms of Service

RuneScape now requires the 3 digit security code to be re entered when ordering additional spins. It is a step in the right direction, but as far as the actual wheel goes, it still resides in a very gray area.
It may be determined that it is legal, but is it moral and ethical?
