Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC I am 83 years old and have received a collection notice for a credit card that would have to have been from over 20 years ago. St Cloud Minnesota
*Consumer Suggestion: Ask for assistance from family members and other resources
I am 83 years old and received several collections for a credit card debt that, if it was even mine, would have to have been more than 20 years old.
I think they may be targeting older people who will be afraid and pay something that isn't even theirs.

#1 Consumer Suggestion
Ask for assistance from family members and other resources

Yes, there are many cases where crooked companies prey on the elderly. But, there is hope. Do you have a grandchild or daughter or son that would help you?
There are also agencies in local government that deal with elderly and help them with this type of thing.
The bottom line is that I would ask for help from a family member and file a complaint with your attorney general consumer protection division
of your state. You also have the Federal Trade Commision and The Financial Protection Bureau (U.S. Government Agency). Forget the Better Business Bureau. They are worthless.
.If they put this in writing I would respond by requesting validation of the debt. Send this certified mail with return signature. If they do not provide it within 30 days. File your complaint and demand strict proof with your so called signature.
Keep this site informed on what is happening. I may be able to offer other suggestions. I am not an attorney.
I can only tell you what I experienced and what worked. You can also tape any threats and report it to the police. Check on your state laws on this. if they claim they are going to arrest you. This is a threat. Call the police.
Don't be intimidated by them. The are laws which give you protection Ask for help
Good luck and God Bless you.
