I had the opposite experience with Jetblue.

AUTHOR: Robin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 07, 2006

In August of 2004 I scheduled a flight to Atlanta, GA that I too became too sick to follow through with. It was dirt cheap, one of their specials and I just wrote it off as a loss, figuring there'd be no refund or credit.

Well, come May 2005 I'm stuck in Ft Lauderdale, FL, trying to get home to San Francisco. The last flight out is via Jetblue and as you know, a flight that is two hours from take off is ANYTHING but dirt cheap.

I called the 800 number and asked about that old ATL flight I'd cancelled and wondered if I might have a credit. I didn't, but when she saw that I hadn't taken the flight, the issued me a credit over the phone and when I bought my plane ticket they accessed the credit with ease. It was such an unexpected bonus and made the ticket price home much less painful.

I fly Jetblue every single chance I get now. In all fairness, I haven't dealt with a credit since then, but I definitely did NOT experience what the above posted experienced.

Maybe I got lucky.

Did you call

AUTHOR: Jennifer - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 07, 2006

Jet Blue does allow you to cancel and rebook or get a credit towards a future flight (within a year) IF you call prior to your scheduled departure time. So, did you?

I checked several other airline's policies and they are the same or similar. Some are even more restrictive, check American Airlines policy on non-refundable tickets. They may or may not allow you a credit towards another flight because (in their terms) a non-refundable ticket is just that, non-refundable. All of Jet Blue's fares are non-refundable, that's why they are a discount airline.

I don't think anyone here was being insulting. If you did not call the airline, you were not ripped off and that's the bottom line.

Perhaps you should read the rules before buying

AUTHOR: Honest Sam - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 07, 2006

From the Jet Blue website:

All JetBlue travel is via electronic ticketing and fares must be purchased at time of reservation. All fares are oneway, nonrefundable and nontransferable. Changes can be made prior to scheduled departure time for a fee of $30 per person plus any applicable difference in airfare. Changes can be made online at jetblue.com/change or by calling 1-800-JETBLUE (538-2583). Cancellations may be made by calling 1-800-JETBLUE (538-2583) prior to scheduled departure for a fee of $30 per person. Any remaining balance will be placed in a JetBlue air-only credit and may be applied toward future travel for one year. If a reservation is not changed or canceled prior to scheduled departure, all money associated with the reservation is forfeited.

All you had to do was cancel before the departure time and you would have been fine. This is the policy these days for most airlines.

I am really sick and tired of having to respond to ignorance and hatefulness by people who have nothing better to do than to lash out at someone who is trying to do some good. 1) You need to go back to school and learn how to read. 2) You need to use what is called "common sense" if you have it, because my nonsense, as you call it, can be interpreted with common sense. 3) You are probably an employee of Jet Blue but nothing that you can say will make it ok to take someone's hard earned money and not provide a service or some type of customer satisfaction. If that was the business standard, this country would be in an uproar. 4) When some organization or person takes money from you after promising a service and refuses to provide you with any type of customer satisfaction - you will then know what it feels like to lose money that you worked for, that is if you work for a living. 5) Find somewhere else to vent your frustrations, anger, hatefulness and any other problems that you or anyone else that responds with hateful comments may have because this is not the forum. It will not help you resolve your issues, they will still be there after you finish responding. Finally, let me remind you, again, that this is a webpage that "helps and informs" people from being "ripped off" by greedy corporations or individuals that have millions or billions. I feel that they have enough money and should not be robbing the people that built this country, of their hard earned money. My father spent 32 years and three wars in the military and I spent 14 years in the military, defending this country. We did not put our lives in harms way for millionaire or billionaire corporations or individuals so they can rip us off! There are PLENTY of markets in this country where money can be made without having to rob people.

Did you call to change or cancel your flight BEFORE THE SCHEDULED DEPARTURE TIME?

You stated you don't care what the fine print says, then maybe you shouldn't enter into any kind of contract if you are just going to interpret it to suit your own needs.

Similar rules

AUTHOR: Alma - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 07, 2006

ALL airlines have somehow similar rules regarding non-refundable ticket. You CAN rebook (for $$) for one year, but you cannot get refund.
BUT you have to call them BEFORE the scheduled trip. Jet Blue offers this same option.
You could rebook for $30. You could use this option for one year.

In which way this differ from Southwest rules?

Read again:

Changes can be made online at jetblue.com/change or by calling 1-800-JETBLUE (538-2583). Cancellations may be made by calling 1-800-JETBLUE (538-2583) prior to scheduled departure for a fee of $30 per person. "Rip off contract"

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 07, 2006

To Connie,

In reference to your statement: The type of contract you are talking about is called a "rip off" contract. So, stop defending "WRONG doing." ...

Since I have never heard of anything called a "rip off contract," I searched the internet long and hard to find out what one is - and I was not able to find anything. Could you please provide a suitable reference - besides your own nonsense - for all of us to learn what a "rip off contract" is? I am quite intrigued to learn what one is, as it is a very strong statement of yours that the airline industry is now resorting to entering "rip off contracts" with their customers, and the world should be informed so that we can take on this industry head-on!

You can't just take someone's money and not provide the service. My comments are going to help someone save their hard earned dollars

AUTHOR: Connie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 06, 2006

Rebuttal...Furthermore, The Rip Off report was created to inform people about rip offs, scams, etc. That is what I did. I have informed people about Jet Blue's "rip off policy." You can't just take someone's money and not provide the service. I don't care what the fine print states, no court of law would allow that. Finally, you are on the wrong web page with your insults, this is a page where "people are helping people" not a page where "people are insulting people (i.e., adding insult to injury) because they got ripped off." Find an insult page. My comments are going to help someone "save" their "hard earned dollars" because if they book a flight with Jet Blue and then can't fly for one reason or another, they will be out their hard earned dollars. There ARE other airlines that will allow you to rebook, even a rebooking fee is better than losing a couple hundred dollars. I only wish someone who was ripped off by Jet Blue would have posted that because I would not have booked a flight with them. I ALWAYS CHECK THE RIP OFF REPORT FIRST.

I love flying by jet blue

AUTHOR: Nuri - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 06, 2006

Hi I can understand you being upset with an airline company but I can't agree with you about jet blue. Here is what happened in my case.
I booked a flight(Two tickets) to Fort Lauderdale from Dallas, VA about 2 years ago. On the week I was supposed to fly, there was a huricane coming and I remember the whole south florida was "shot down". No airline was flying. So I ended up with the credit of $501.00
I had no idea that the credit is good for one year. Most likely Ive read about it on the printout, but never paid attention.
Anyhow, I wanted to book a flight almost two years after, using that credit.Couldn't find my credit online. So I emailed to CS and Ive got the responce from MR.Nick explaining the whole story about the credit process. But he stated that he will go ahead and honor my credit. All I need to do is to search for the next flight, get the flight number and call them. A few months have passed and I wanted to go to bahamas for memorial day. I called Nick and left the message. Ms Susan called me the next day, and left the message on my phone saying she is sorry to miss me and to call her back regarding my credit. I called again, talked to MS Maria ( not sure about the name this time) and she booked me for the flight to Fort Lauderdale. In fakt I had to call one more time b/c the first booking didn't go thru. The second was ok. I was suspicious if Ill have a seat or not. I did.
The whole time I had a feeling as if I would do them a favor to fly with them. They were so nice.
So the point is, there were the rules, i missed it, they still let me fly using expired credit.
The crew were funny. One of them said that smoking in not permited in the plane, who feels like smoking they can step outside. Many jokes along the way. The only complain I would have was the screen in from of my seat wasnt working for about half the flight so I had to watch whatever the lady next to me watched. But it was great flight, and experiance.
Bahamasair, from Fort Lauderdale to Bahamas....I will never fly with them again. They will actually close the line right in front of you and let standby customers book ! ???
I didnt know jet blue flies to Bahamas. The guy at Jet blue kiosk in Bahamas told me they fly to bahamas from Boston and JFK, well next time I will rather fly to JFK then Bahamas, using jet blue than any other airline.
Im sorry they didnt give you credit. Most likely you tried to rebook after the flight date.
I think it would be much better if we ask or complain in polite manner. Then and just then, those companies might work in our favor.
But this is my experiance and I know there are some people who experianced different.

You had a chance to cancel before departure

AUTHOR: Scott - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 06, 2006

Did you call to change or cancel BEFORE departure time, or did you want to make the changes after the date of the original flight?

On Jetblue's website they have information regarding cancelling a flight.

Domestic Travel

Changes and Cancellations

If a change or cancellation results in overpayment, any remaining balance will become a credit with JetBlue and may be applied toward future travel for one year. Cancellations may be made prior to scheduled departure for a JetBlue travel credit, which is valid for one year and is subject to a $30 fee. If a reservation is not changed or canceled prior to scheduled departure, all money associated with the reservation is forfeited.

Fares do not include Passenger Facility Charges of up to $9 each way, September 11th Security Fees of up to $5 each way and a Federal Segment Tax of $3.30 per domestic segment. A segment is a takeoff and landing.

NO airline is going to give you a refund or credit towards a future flight. That is not a new policy or JetBlue policy, it has been that way for years. That is another reason not to book a nonrefundable ticket unless you are 1000% sure you will make it. At least by paying a little extra, you have an option to rebook or get a refund.
