They offered a watch for sale for $17,280.  You felt that price was fair so you accepted it and that is what you paid.  So you did NOT "overpay".

But the real question is why didn't you do all of this "research" before you purchased the watch?  Do you make it a habbit of plunking down 5 figure sums on luxury items without doing any more research than looking at a price tag in a store?   I don't know about you but to most "regular" people a Rolex is not a "Spur of the Moment" purchase, but heck if you can afford it...more power to you.

As for the "appraisal" there are many different types of appraisals and there is NO idea what type the $22,500 was.  Was it replacement cost?  Was it original purchase price?  Was it the price they paid when ever they bought it?  Who did the appraisal?  You did ask those questions right? 

I also find it very funny how you talk about how this item was from 1986.  Quite frankly a lot of people would find paying even $10,000 for a watch of almost any age a waste of money.

Sorry, but this sounds like nothing more than Buyer's Remorse.  Where if you ever get them to return it..great but they are really under no obligation to.   Unless you bought this thinking you could make a quick buck, perhaps you should just enjoy it for the watch that it is.  After all you really don't "loose" any money until you try and sell it, and what happens if in 2-3 years it truly does become worth $22,500?
