CBS asked the question: What is the Nation's Top Scam? The answer: Free Online Trial Offers.
Kollagen-Intensiv is one such company that uses a Free Trial Offer for their product, promising to send you a free trial version of their wrinkle reducing cream (which isn't that great) for just shipping and handling charges of $4.95. (The reason they charge you this small amount is so that you have to give your credit card information; once they have that... beware!)
Kollagen-Intensiv sets up their website/free trial ordering in three steps:
The first page offers loud advertisements for the product with a huge arrow pointing to the right, where you are urged to fill out your contact information. The text inside the arrow reads: "30-DAY TRIAL--WHILE QUANTITIES LAST!"
At the second page this huge arrow is pointing the right again, this time telling you: "YOU'RE ALMOST DONE! Complete This and Your RISK-FREE Will Be READY TO SHIP!" Guess to what you are rushed along??? Yes, a form with your credit card information. Fill that out and click to the next page and your order is done!
What you probably haven't read, judged by the many complaints this company and others like it have received, is that there is small text ("the fine print") on the second page that will tell you, in the middle of a lengthy paragraph that you will be charged $99.95 if you don't notify the company within 30 days of your free trial order that you do not wish to be a part of their program. It also tells you that "there are no commitments or hassles," which is kinda funny (NOT) when you complain about being charged $99.95 on your next credit card bill. They will not give you your money back!
Clearly the sales website/ordering is set up to deceive. It is meant to hurry you along to fill out the forms on the right and get your credit card information. If this company were not deceptive, it would simply put down in CLEAR LARGE SIZE FONT (with perhaps an arrow pointing to this, too!) that the Free Trial comes with a follow-up charge of $99.95 if you don't opt out within 30 days from the date of ordering. (Note: The charges do not start from one month after the day of mailing or when you receive the product, but from the day of ordering, another crafty inclusion to get your money at quicker speed. So, in reality, you do not get a 30-Day Free Trail offer, because by the time you get the product, you will have already lost days. The 30-Day offer is, therefore, clearly a lie.)
This type of scam--the free trial offer--should be illegal, as its intent is to be duplicitous and trap a customer into thinking that something is being offered for nothing (except that $4.95 shipping and handling fee, meant to, just as duplicitously, get your CC info).
Shame on Kollagen-Invensiv and all the people who work for it! How can they sleep at night with a clean conscience?
Hopefully we will see the government clamping down on companies that use "Free Trial Offers" to rip people off! Even a class-action lawsuit would be welcome.

I am sorry to hear about your disappointment with Kollagen Intensiv.
We go through every effort to make our terms as clear as possible. In fact it’s not possible to continue placing an order unless you check mark the box to say you have read our terms and conditions. Our terms are written very clearly and they are not hidden in any way. In addition to the terms we send a receipt with a link to our terms and also a brochure that came with the first shipment stating that it is a trial program and that you may cancel at any time. If we do not receive a call from the customer then we will assume the customer wishes to stay on the program and a two month supply is automatically shipped out 30 days later. Due to the generous nature of this program i.e. you receive the first jar for free, we are unable to offer any refunds or returns.
Please note Kollagen Intensiv is available with a money back guarantee on our non-trial website, however, the cost for this is at the regular price of $59.95 plus shipping.
Please see attached a screen-shot showing the webpage where you signed up including the terms and conditions.
