It seems though as every where you go people are trying to ripp you off. And its True, no matter where you are if you arent careful you will get ripped off. Having been around a few gyms I come to understand how the Thieves work. First I was a member at Bally Total Ripoff! They turned out to be crap. So I decided to join LA Fitness. Right as you walk in the Vultures approach you but these vultures greed you with a smile. All sales people regardless of the industry are Rip Offs, if you arent careful they will rip you off. So as you signing up for a membership they tell you you have to pay a fee sometimes is $20 sometimes $50 sometimes $150 Depending on the thief you talk to. These membership fees they ask you for will go straight to the pockets of the sales people, La Fitness the company charges no membership fees, Go to their website you will see" 0 down and $ a month". Althought LA fitness is a very nice and clean gym its still a rip off. When you try to sign up they require a credit card otherwise they wont sign you up. I wanted to pay cash but put my credit card in, so every month I was pay cash and every month they were taking money out of my credit card, I was getting charged double! I talked to the people there and the lies one person told were funnier than the other. So when I tried to cancel they told me I had to write a letter I did that and next month I get a bill from credit card company with a charge from La fitness So I canceled the card and they are still calling and trying to bill me! And they did the same to thing to a lot of people I know.

This is how the thieves work. They ask you to send in cancellation letter they say they never received anything they still keep on billing you! Rip offs

LA Fitness are bunch of crooks!

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, August 01, 2011

I have a long story as well, but I will make this short.Last summer I have

signed up for a gym, and yes I paid the sign up fee :( On my second or third

visit I have been approached by one of the personal trainer and it sounded very

good to me at first. I was kind of skeptic at first but he has sold me one of

the programs. But before I have sign up I did specifically ask if I could cancel

at any time and he assured me that I could. In about November on one of my

visits, some other personal trainer was working with me and I have injured my

hip and my knee (permanently). I have canceled my gym membership thinking that

all of it is canceled, but later to find out that gym and personal trainer fee

doesn't go together.

Therefore I could not attend their gym

because I was injured and had no membership to it but I am still paying for the

personal trainer. When I have called home office I have been informed that I

need to send a letter from my doctor stating that was injured and could not work

out any longer. However when I have sent that letter in and never got any

response to it, I have called home office once again. i have found out that the

letter was no good because they need a letter stating that I have permanent

injury. Also found out that even after sending that letter they can still send

me to their choice doctor, who is on their pay roll to evaluate me. I am too

busy for those games. Therefore I am still paying for something that I will

never use or even if I wanted to I could not since I did not have membership any

longer. STAY AWAY FROM LA FITNESS!

how to cancel and protect your rights

AUTHOR: Larry - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, July 16, 2011

Get a hard copy of the cancellation notice fill it out and mail it to corporate headquarters certified mail with a return receipt , this will guarantee that La fitness received it and they will take care of the cancellation , this way they have no leg to stand on in court, it works because they wont listen to you but they will listen to a Judge, and if you notice they will not give out there last names for fear of future litigation

#3 UPDATE EX-employee responds

i worked at la fitness

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, April 24, 2011

I agree with the original report!!! There a bunch of thugs! I worked there for 2 years i quickly saw how these people were. As a trainer you get zero health benifits, unpaid vacation time, I got eye surgery and was sensitive to light they told me they would call my clients for me, never happened so when my clients came in staff actied as if they had no clue where I was and they would talk to me about how unprofessional I am! So that the company would not look bad! Trainers AND managers steal money form clients and they will get fired, but polices are never informed!!!!! I got fired a couple days ago for not working full time I never signed anything stating I would! I have so much crap on the people that work there its not even funny! Obviiuosly the other individual that commented on this works for LA fitness.....hey man lets talk in about 3 months when they fire you and you dont even exhist to them anymore!

Me do research? you are joking righ?

AUTHOR: Lekaimadh - (United States of America)

First of all as to answer your response. Do my research first? Ive been going to the gym for years, Ive been a member at Bally Total Fitness, La Fitness, Retro Fitness, Planet Fitness I know how they operate their business Ive seen it with my own two eyes.
As to your response to the fees that the sales people charge. Anything you get charged upfront will go straight in the pockets of the Sales people. Answer me this. Why is that these fees you pay when you sign up change from day to day. One day is $25 next day is $150. And why is that these fees vary from Sales Thief to Sales Thief. As to your comment " la fitness has multiple membership rates the more money you put down the lesser you monthly fee" I dont know where you heard that Bullshit but that coulnd be further from the truth. That money you put up front will go straight in the Pockets of the Sales people. The Sales thieves get payed commission. Every time someone signs up for a membership La fitness pays them but what they do they tell customers they have to pay a FEE for joining the club so thats how they make their money. The cancellation fee statement. Yes the masterpiece of the thieves. Answer me this when I was at La Fitness I signed up with 3 other friends of mine. We all left at the same time, all send the cancellation fee at the same time. And all 4 of us still were being charged by la fitness. So It just so happens employees lost ALL 4 cancellation notices, I dont think so.  Same thing has happened to bunch of other people I know. They are ripoffs. Any business is out to make money how they make that money doesnt matter, doesnt matter if they ripoff people, doesnt matter if they lie to the people. Most likely you probably work for LA Fitness its obvious you'd defend and wont admit that you are rip offs. With that being said I got little tutorial for the people here. Heres how you deal with rip offs. When you go to sign up for a membership give out FAKE information, FAke name, fake address, fake phone number, they ask for id say you dont have any, sales people are greedy so they wont really care as long as you sign up. Now once you give our your credit card or debit card make sure you pay everything in full to the cc company, They Next billing month of your membership pay in advance CASH at least 10 days and cancel your cc or debit card. So now if LA fitness tries to charge you they get Nothing! And when the people ask you to pay up you just stall them for a month or two, tell them you will pay next week and so on, tell you will get a new card etc etc. So on top of everything make sure you get a couple of months of free membership. When you want to leave just leave and let them find you! I strongly recommend people do this a month or two before you want to close your account. If you dont I absolutely positively 100000% guarantee it you will get ripped off with the cancellation notice. To this day there isnt a person I talk to who was a member at LA fitness and didnt get ripped off when they try to cancel. Dont believe me Just do a quick search here" LA fitness" other people back up my claims! cheers

You need to do your research

AUTHOR: Christopher - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 01, 2010

I'm sorry you feel this way about LA Fitness. You are stating that the membership fees "go straight to the pockets of the sales people." This is an absolutely false statement. Employees in the sales business make commission. That is how they get paid; a percentage of what they sell. Everybody has to make their money somebody, wether it is commission, hourly, or salary.

LA Fitness has multiple membership rates. Basically, the more money you put down upfront, the lesser your monthly payment will be, or the more amenities or access to locations you will have. Your statement says the membership fees are 'Depending on the thief you talk to." This is another false statement. It is you, the consumer, who needs to do the research before investing in a membership.

You also stated that when you sign up they require a credit card. This is correct, every major gym in the country requires a credit card. In fact, almost every business in the country requires a credit card, debit card, or bank account to open an account. Cell phones, video rentals, cash advances, etc. etc. When you sign up for a membership, you agree to have the monthly fee electronically drafted from your bank account, or a credit card. Every gym requires this, because if they don't do this, they wouldn't be able to collect the membership fees.

You were getting double charged every month when you paid cash because you did not read your membership agreement before signing. If you wanted to pay cash, according to your agreement, you would have needed to pay cash in advanced, at least 5-10 days before your payment due date. I don't know their exact policy when it comes to billing but my membership agreement says 5 days. Most gym require this, LA Fitness, Bally Fitness, 24 Hours Fitness, etc etcThey all do the same.

When you tried to cancel, you have to have a written notice. That's correct. This is an industry standard. If you can find a MAJOR health club that doesn't follow those standards than please let me know. LA Fitness makes it easier for you, by providing you a cancelation form at the facility, or you can print it yourself at home. All you would need to do is place a stamp on it and drop it in the mail box. When the form accessed online, or in the gym to print, it is noted on your account that the form has been accessed. So if it happens to be lost in the mail, the employees can see that it has been printed and that is sufficient evidence to cancel the account if it may have been lost in the mail.

If you had hand written a letter to the cancelation department, then all you would need to do is provide evidence that you mailed the cancel request in. Such as a mail receipt, certified mail receipt, a copy of the original request, etc and with the evidence they could cancel the account. Without either of those, there is no proof that you even tried to cancel your account.

It seems that you need to read your agreement before signing to be aware of the policy. You should also be advised that the gym industry is very close. Most gym have the same procedures, policy, and rate. This is because they are competitive.

I speak on behalf of the Industry. I've been a member of many different gyms because I travel a lot. I do my research, I read my agreements.

Next time you go out an purchase a membership, do your research. Don't be the average consumer who doesn't. And if you don't do that, then this is the price you have to pay.
