I entered into a non-cancellable lease for a credit card machine in Oct. 2011 for 60 mos. One year after I signed the equipment became obsolete. I continued to pay for 48 mos. $49.95 . I have paid for the machine many times over. I quit 8 Mos. before the completion of lease.
I talked to customer service and returned the equipment. They were very rude and wanted penality and interest.
NO WORKING A SETTLEMENT! I orginally only owed $539
I refused to settle for the large amout that they insisted on ! over $1000!
Now I have a law suit against me.
I am being summoned to court in the city of new york in 20 days. (I live in Florida)
I have written to the State Attorney office in NY and Florida.
I have also written to the clerk of the court in the civil court where I am suppose to appear.
It is a hardship for me and I am a senior citizen. I will not be there and take my chances.
I will let you all know the outcome.
Im praying.

If you fail to show up in court, regardless of who you have written. They will get a "default" judgment against you which means that you will owe the amount that they are suing you for.
If you fail to pay them depending on your exact situation they could attempt to garnish any wages you have, attach your bank acounts, or even place liens on any property you may own.
The BEST thing you can do is contact an attorney in NY who can represent you. They may be able to work out a settlement before it goes to court. But if you end up having to have them go to court it may run you a couple thousand which if you are only being sued for around $1000 it may not be worth it unless you want a victory in principal.
