Legacy phone service likes to make BIG BUCKS by taking advantage of people in mental institutions Cypress California

Legacy telephone service charges $20.00 just to pick up the phone. My grandson was in a mental institution and I accepted his collect calls not knowing I was being charged triple the amount of a normal collect call. When I got my phone bill I was shocked at the amount they charge per minute.

My local phone company would no longer allow me to accept the collect calls for fear I would not pay my bill. I gave Legacy my credit card number so I could accept his calls but chase also put a block on the use of the card because the bill was over $500.00 for the calls, none of them lasting longer than 5 minutes. They were also concerned about getting their money, realizing the outrageous charges they could see that something was not right. I believe they blocked the use of the card because they knew that I was being over charged and that there would probably be a dispute over the charges.

I had no idea that in less than a month my phone bill would be over $1,000.00 for just a few very short phone calls. It should be illegal to charge such prices, especially when you have individuals that have no other means of communication with their loved ones. My grandson is in a mental hospital and doesn't even know what is going on and he thinks it only cost $1.00 dollar per call (which he claims to put in the phone in order to make the call).

It is just wrong and these people in charge of Legacy should be ashamed of themselves and hang their heads low. I just want my money back beause we would not have accepted the calls if we knew what we were being charged. We expected it to be expensive, all collect calls are, but this is just down right greedy and taking advantage of people. I hope a class action lawsuit gets filed against this company. There are several complaints against Legacy, in fact anyone who has ever used their services (that I have talked to) has nothing but bad things to say.

In the financial crisis that America is experiencing you would think that Legacy might have a little compassion and want to help instead of making things worse for the average person. They can be compared to the credit card companies and the banks that have contributed to the financial state of the country.
