On or about September 2nd of 2006, I walked into the club to cancel my membership. For some reason, on this day and this day only, they had trouble finding my account, even while scanning my bar code. The girl appeared to be new. When I walk in to use the gym, no problems. So, after about 20 minutes, she takes my badge and said that it's all taken care of, we're sorry to see you go and have a good day. So I assume it is done and over with. I see no charges for September, October or November. Then, all of a sudden, I see a triple charge for December. So I go to the club, but he can't help me. He had me re-do my cancellation and this time, I received a print out of my request that I signed. He further tells me that I will be charged in January per my agreement, but to just call the 800 corporate number and they will be happy to take care of me. So I call her and she tells me that there's nothing they will do because I never had anything signed, per my agreement. Well, there's nothing I can see on my agreement that states I had to have anything signed anyway. So, how was I supposed to know? When the girl just takes my badge and says it's taken care of, what am I to think? So, I am dusputing the charge with my bank, but I don't know that it will work with that unhelpful and unfriendly person that they call customer service at 1-800-881-8755.

THEY ARE NOT A MEMBER OF THE BBB I JUST LOOKED IT UP MYSELF!!!! AND THEY LIED TO ME TOO AND THEY WILL LIE TO THE NEXT GUY OR GAL THAT WALKS IN THEIR DOOR!!!

This is the BBB response from Lifestyle (though they are not members, according to the BBB):

"we have no written cancellation request on file for this member prior to December. We are showing that he used the facilities through October 26th of 2006. We have a note from the club that his keytag was found and in the "lost keytag" box they keep at the front desk.

At this time, we cannot refund unless we have proof of prior written cancellation.

We will not process any further charges to Mr. Smith's credit card at this time. If he has further disputes filed with his credit card company we will let them credit his account through their process without protest."

This is such an outright lie it is disgusting. The girl behind the counter confiscated my badge, preventing me from using their facilities even if I had wanted to (which according to their contract, I have full use for 30 days after cancellation). So, she breached that contract and I should have been cancelled at that time in any event.
At any rate, this is a complete fabrication that my badge was "found in the lost badge box". That means they willfully and wantonly perpetrated fraud and this is probably standard operating procedures for this company to illegally continue to take funds from your account.
I have marked this as unacceptable with the BBB and thankfully, I have a relative who works for a certain federal agency and I will ask him what he thinks about all of this.
Regardless of what happens, I will not ever suggest to anyone, even my worst enemy that they use Lifestyle for anything. This company is dishonest, unethical, immoral, and will rip you off at the drop of a feather. Stay away!!!
