A Carfax report is DEFINITELY the first step to take...

I was sold a 1998 Ranger a few years ago, advertised as having one private owner. I ran the Carfax report and discovered that, in fact, it had been a rental vehicle and had suffered extensive damages because of its use by many renters. I was able to threaten a lawsuit if I wasn't reimbursed the money I'd paid to that point...and got my money back down to the penny. Definitely, begin with a Carfax report! It's objective, honest, and very hard for a dealer to fight in court.

Jeff,
You need to get a carfax.com report. This will tell you if it was ever a total loss and why.
It does sound right that you bought a flood damaged vehicle. if that is the case, the dealer who sold it is guilty of fraud.
Get the CarFax report asap.
Good luck.

Flood damage

Sounds like you may have been sold a car that was totaled because it got caught in a flood. A car that has been in a flood may work OK for a little while but then there will be lots of things going wrong. Look for mud under the carpet, inside the doors, etc.

Advice regarding RECALLS

Jeff,
Any legitimate recall notice gives you the right for a totally free inspection and repair at any authorized dealer.
Many of those items you mentioned are on one fuse together. But then again, some have absolutely nothing to do with the other.
You never mentioned the year and make/model of your vehicle which is important information.
It sounds like you had a lemon before the recall notice.
Moisture in the radio has nothing to do with the other problems.
