On Oct. 20, 2004, we were in the Mattress Firm store at 711 Academy Blvd. in Colorado Springs for the purpose of purchasing a twin mattress and box spring. While we were there, we noticed a fabulous deal you were offering on a king Contessa mattress. It was marked down to $599.00 from $2000.00 for the mattress and 2 box springs. Since the mattress measured 22 inches in depth, we could not use the box springs. The salesman then offered to sell just the mattress for $450.00. We accepted that offer and made a $50.00 deposit. We made it very clear to the salesman that we would not pick up the mattress until Christmas Eve, Dec. 24th.

Since the mattress was so large, I had to build a special platform on my 5x9 trailer in order to haul it back to Montezuma, KS..

When we arrived at the store on the morning of Dec 24th, the salesman could not locate the mattress. He then made a phone call to a store in Denver and told us that the mattress had accidentally been delivered to the store in Denver and ask if we could come back to the store in Colorado Springs on Tuesday to pick up the mattress. When we told them that it was not possible for us to stay over the weekend, he suggested that we might want to drive to Denver to get our mattress. When we did not express in interest in making that little journey, he informed us that it would cost $300 to have the mattress delivered to Montezuma, KS.

We did express an interest in that option and asked him to call the store in Denver to make the arrangements for delivery. After making another phone call, he informed us that the mattress was not in Denver after all, and as a matter of fact was nowhere to be found.

The salesmen then offered to sell us another mattress for $320. This mattress had an original sticker price of about half the sticker price of the mattress we originally agreed to purchase for $450. Do the math. Not such a good deal. We then asked for a price of a mattress in the store that was comparable in quality to the mattress we had originally agreed to purchase. His best price on that mattress was $1900. That price was over 4 times as much as our original agreed upon price. Not a good deal.

The salesman then informed us that there was nothing else he could do other than refund our $50.00 deposit. We agreed to that since none of his previous offers were acceptable. He refused to give a cash refund since we had paid by check. A check which I'm sure was cashed many weeks ago. We agreed to a credit of $50.00 on a credit card.

We are not happy that we pulled a trailer 500 miles for nothing. We are not happy that we held up our end of the agreement and the Mattress Firm did not.
