I am a victim of an insurance scam.  2 or 3 months ago I began searching the internet for health insurance.  I entered my phone number on a website, and my phone immediately rang.  I should have known that was fishy.  The person I spoke to sold me an insurance plan that he claimed was for children ages 10 - 15 years old and it would be $105 per month.  He said it would play for well child checks... completely!  Then there would be a 15 - 30 dollar copay for sick visits.  This sounded completely typical.  What they sold me, however, was not anywhere near what they claimed it to be.  It was National General, which is short term medical and doesn't meet federal requirements.  They pay 50 dollars per office visit and nothing for vaccines (unless the deductible is met).  This costs 80 something dollars/month.  Then for 21.99/mo, she got a prescription drug card.  I did some research online and discovered that this is a scam that's been happening for years.  People sell all types of insurance: health, auto, home, boat etc... and they make you believe it's adequate coverage but it's very limited coverage.  I'm not even sure why short term medical, would be necessary now that everyone has to have a plan that meets federal requirements.   I'll have to pay at least $200 for my daughter's recent well-child check and could possibly be penalized for her not having a plan that meets federal requirements for 3 whole months!  Beware!!!
