This is one of the worst businesses I have ever used and there have been many.  I love to shop!  I bought a couple of things from this merchant a while back, not much, a couple of pairs of pants a dress and couple of shirts which came to about $489.00.  I put it on my NN card.  When I got the clothes, I threw most of them away.  They were cheap, smelled like vinyl and fell apart when I put them in the washer.  Since I didn't like them, I made the minimum payment on the card because I didn't feel like paying for them.  Anyway, this February things became financially hard for my family, just like every one else, and I made one payment late.  The following month I paid the card off.  So after making all payments as agreed, except one, and then paying the card off, Newport News reported my account as "Adverse" on my credit which caused my credit rating to drop from 810 to 679.  What a piece of ____ company!!  So, not only do I not have the piece of trash clothes, they caused my credit to drop.  Kind of funny how all my other credit cards, Sears, the Children's Place, Home Depot and my Capital One credit card were paid late in February too and none of them reported it.  Thanks Guys!! Newport News is a piece of garbage company that sells cheap clothes and has bad business practices.  I will never buy from them in the future.  I will be using all of my other cards though!! Except for Best Buy, but that will be a whole different posting.  By the way, does anyone know where you can make positive posts about businesses because I think people should know which companies stand behind them when things get tough.  If we are going to post the bad....we should post the good.

Obvious Question...

AUTHOR: Dorene - (United States of America)

I am having trouble understanding why you didn't just return the items to the company, instead of throwing them in the trash (???) Yes they may have been cheap crap but by throwing them away instead of returning them, you still got stuck with the bill.

Update #1

AUTHOR: pissed in new york - (USA)

After researching, this is what I have found for those of you who have been ripped off by Newport News or any other merchant using World Financial Network National Bank credit cards.  WFNNB is affiliated with Private Label which seems to be a subsidiary of Alliance Data based out of Plano Texas.  From what I gather, they are a marketing company who just recently allied with J. Crew, for those of you who want to avoid any credit cards affiliated with FNNB.  I also found out that, as of this morning, Alliance Data was making substantial gains on the New York Stock exchange.  So, while we are all being ripped off, they are making big bucks.  You can also find a list of all credit cards issued by WFNNB if you want to avoid them in the future which I fully intend to do.  I used to laugh when some of my "redneck" (using the term lovingly here) talked of a World Bank that was going to do just that (take over the world banking industry).  Seems they weren't that far off!!!Maybe the increase in numbers of militia groups nationwide shouldn't be that surprising after all.  That's it...Good luck to the rest of you.

Thanks for the information

I do thank you for your information, but there is nothing for me to pursue as I was, admittedly, 30 days late, ONCE.  However, because two accounts (also Best Buy), which you can read in my other complaint, reported me late,(the only two out of six accounts) it has lowered by credit rating considerably, as mentioned.  If you only show four satisfactory accounts and two adverse, it doesn't bode well.  Anyway, my point was, why would it even be reported as late, if it was only once over the course of the account and the account was already paid in full and the account was subsequently closed BY ME. They reported it after I closed the account.  If you don't believe it is possible, I will gladly upload a copy of the report (with obvious personal data blacked out).  It is possible and it is BS.  My husband and I own our home with 50% equity in our home and make a combined income of over $85,000.00 (not rich, but O.K.)  Imagine I couldn't buy $600.00 in golf clubs.  No wonder the economy is in the tanker!!  I do intend to see what other options I have with these two garbage companies.

Not possible

What exactly was the "Adverse" listing on your report?

Because according to you, you were at most 30 days late.  A single 30-Day late payment is NOT going to lower your credit score from 810 to 679, unless you are leaving some very important facts out.  Yes it will have an effect, but not anywhere near 131 points.

If you can prove the listing on your credit report is incorrect you have the right to have it correccted per the Fair Credit Reporting Act.  That is if they show you as 60 days late and you can prove you were only 30 days late by law they must correct it.  If they are showing you 30 days late and you can prove you paid before you hit the 30 day mark then if they report your credit they have to report you as paying on-time.  Because the first negative mark is 30 days.

A shill? Shilling? What???

AUTHOR: pissed in new york - (USA)

Not exactly sure what shilling is...but according to wikipedia it is a plant of some sort, which I am not.  I am just really upset because I tried to buy my husband golf clubs today for Father's Day and my credit is not good thanks to this company, not that I really give a d**n who you are or what you think.
