I have had many different cellular phone accounts for my business - BellSouth Mobility, CellularOne, Cingular, SunCom, At&t Wireless. In June of 2002 I switched all of our phones to Nextel because at the time they were the only company I could find with a shared nationwide group plan. I was told that they had good coverage, that I would have phone insurance like I had with every other company, and that I would have a discount through one of our suppliers.

1st. They have horrible coverage! Their servious only works half of the time when you are traveling and since we are a commercial roofing company that is all we do!!

2nd. They offer the 2-way radio feature which seams like a good idea when you hear it pitched but trust me it is not worth the effort or cost to be a nextel customer.

3rd. We had one of our most expensive cell phones stolen and I called Nextel thinking that it would be covered under my insurance policy. They tell me that they have to insurance packages one that covers repair of the phone only and one that covers repair and replacement. I thought they just had one and my sales rep didn't indicate they had more than one. So he put me on the plan of his choice which was the lessor plan.

I have never in all of my days of being in the "roofing" business ever encountered a phone that could be repaired once it quit working. However this phone was stolen so I was really screwed. Not only did they make me pay for it but they wouldn't give me my discount either so I had to pay the full price of $250.00.

4th. I started this account in June of 2002 and I called them today December 17 to find out when my "one" year contract expires and they informed me that my "twelve" month contract doesn't end until September!!!

I would definately recommend that no one does business with Nextel!!!!!!!!

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Your problems aren't with Nextel, there with the purchasing company!

First, my husband and I, not to mention all our friends, use Nextel. Mainly because they are the only phone to have the 2 way radio, at no additional cost I might add.

The only real problem you have, is the insurance coverage. That should be taken up with the dealership you dealt with. But, Nextels do not cost $250. The most a expensive Nextel is $149 and usually, there is a rebate offered on all their phones. Any phone CAN be repaired as long as it is not damaged beyond repair, meaning, if it is constantly dropped and that is the reason, it probaly can't be fixed. But, when we brought an insurance contract on our phones, we read over the paper work that we sign and receive a copy of, you should also have this.

As to the comments about their service area, like any cell phone, there will be times that service is bad. This occurs mainly around power lines. If you really had these other services, surely you'd see Nextel is the best offered. Cingular, without any doubt, is the worst. My mother uses them and can't wait until her contract is up. You usually get a recording stating she is unavailable because her phone is off, just to find out, it's been on the whole time. The list goes on with their problems.

The radio not being worth it, whatever. The radio is probally the best thing any cell company came up with, 99% you can get through, unless they're using the phone at that time. Even when you can't get a landline, you can usually get the radio.

Basically, I'm not attacking your comments, but if what you say is true, your problem is with the dealership you purchased your phones from. 1) You should have never paid $250 for any of their phones, 2) They do offer big discounts, not only on the phones, but on the service plans, when you purchase them for a business. This is the dealerships problem. They've taken you for a ride, if you used these other services, you should have known first hand what to look for in their plans and better yet, you should have shopped around a little more.

I forgot to add one thing! With Nextel you can only use Motorolla phones. They are the worst phones ever! Their battiers won't hold a charge and the break easily!
