We have a letter from Palisades Collections LLC saying we owe them money as they purchased our account from Heilig Meyers.

Heilig Meyers went out of business in March of 2000 and we paid off our account with them through Heilig Meyers Master Trust.

We have sent a certified letter to Palisades asking for proof of the debt, amount of debt, name of creditor, verification or copy of any judgment and also proof that they are licensed to collect debts in the state of Kentucky. They sent nothing we ask for!

Our credit report even shows this debt as "Settled" and "Paid In Full" as of April 2002.

We've called Palisades, they are RUDE, they ask if I could read and hung up the phone while I was asking questions. This place and their employees are incapable of answering simple questions.

#4 Consumer Suggestion

Suggestion for "Anonymous".....

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 23, 2006

Anonymous,

So, tell us, just how many DAYS have you been employed at Palisades? We get your type on here all the time, new on the job, don't know sh*t, and immediately giving "expert" advice.

My suggestion to you? Remain "anonymous". You are the definition of the word idiot.

You might want to make an inquiry to the FTC and find out just how many complaints have been filed against Palisades. Then do a general web search for "palisades" and tell me what you find.
Have you ever been to the budhibbs.com website? I think you should visit and click on the "agencies to avoid" tab.

Advice for Timothy..Do not ever speak to a debt collector on the phone.

Immediately send a CEASE COMMUNICATIONS request as per your rights under the FDCPA which you can read and print out at ftc.gov, and can file complaints there too.

You will not hear from them again. They are idiots, usually with a drug or alcohol addiction or high school dropouts that have no communications skills or knowledge of the FDCPA.

Did you know you can sue a collector individually for violation of your rights under the FDCPA?

#2 Consumer Comment

The biggest load of BS ever - Palisades does NOT follow the FDCPA, they count on most consumers having no knowledge of the act and responding to their rudeness, threats and intimidation.

AUTHOR: Aafes - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 22, 2006

Anonymous posted the biggest load of BS ever. First:

"Every letter that is sent out must first be reviewed and approved by legal..."

Whoa, how do you make any money. It must be costly for the hundreds of attorneys and paralegals you have sitting and reading the thousands of letters sent out each week.

Then you posted that all the letters are generated by a computer. Is your legal team also computerized?

No collection company would pay money for a paid account. And if your company was ignorant enough to do so, the account was clearly marked paid. Are your computer experts such morons that they cannot filter a paid from unpaid account. Oh, wait, the letter was reviewed by your "legal" team. Obviously when they saw it was paid, they sent it out for mailing.

To the OP. Ignore this idiot. Palisades does NOT follow the FDCPA to the letter, they count on most consumers having no knowledge of the act and responding to their rudeness, threats and intimidation.

PALISADE COLLECTIONS STRICTLY ADHERES TO FDCPA LAWS (FAIR DEBT COLLECTIONS PRACTICES ACT) NO EXCEPTIONS

AUTHOR: Anonymous - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 22, 2006

To start, Palisades Collections whether this is own or not has its own in-house legal team. Therefore the company is well aware of the law and understands what is and isnt legal. Every letter that is sent out must first be reviewed and approved by legal. Palisades Collections is very much aware and strictly abides to all FDCPA regulations.

In response to the notices sent out regarding Heilig Meyers accounts. I can understand how frustrating it may have been to see what seems to be a collection notice for an account that was satisfied years prior. However, you must also understand that this is the very reason why you recieved our letter in the first place. Please allow me to explain....
Palisades Collection obtained ALL Heilig Meyers accounts..paid, unpaid, bankrupt, etc..
The reason for taking on the unpaid accounts is easy to understand but most people wonder why we take the paid accounts as well. The reason is because Heilig Meyers is out of business, there isnt anyone with any recorded proof that the debt has been satisfied. When we send out a letter it doesnt say that we are coming after you for the funds it just advises you that your account is now with Palisades. It does state that if your debt is still owing we will be reporting, but again, that is only IF you are still owing. You said it yourself that your credit report shows that the debt is satisfied. Palisades cannot and I'm quite sure they have not changed your status.

Believe it or not the CRA arent perfect and quite often mistakes are made, accounts are often left not updated. When these things happen the consumer who may not have recieved or have misplaced their notice confirming a paid or settled in full status is left with no where to go...especially if the company they paid this account to is no longer in business. This situation may not pertain to you, but knowing who has records of your account for emergency situations is crucial.

Also lets not forget that we live in a computer age where most of this info is sent electronically and some files arent accurate..so sending the notices also helps us sort what account may not have been transfered correctly...In these cases we place an account in dispute and freeze the tradeline until this matter is resloved.

As for a collector being rude...all calls are recorded and monitered for quality control...if you can honestly say that you did not call and immediatly began attacking the collector....the FDCPA states that anyone and everyone has the right to file a complaint....but remember all calls are recorded and monitered.

i hope that helped.
