This company is stating I owe this debt to Verizon Florida Inc. The funny thing about the entire thing is, it came in my maiden name. I have been married for 13 years. Unreal! I dont know what to do pertaining to this collection! I just paid all my credit cards off entirely and now these idiots are going to beg me to pay a debt. It sounds fishy to me. Although the credit reporting agencies put a fraud alert on my alias a few weeks ago, due to an address in Florida that was on my report. I never even stepped foot in Florida. Furthermore, this notice has three addresses on it. One major address that is in Texas the others are Washington, Missouri. So where is this company officially from. What should I do from this point?

Send them what is known as a validation letter. You can find examples online. State you are disputing the debt, that you do not owe the money they say you do, and you are demanding they PROVE otherwise by providing something in writing that shows you signed for an account. Tell them you want to see original paperwork to prove it, like a contract for services. They won't be able to produce it and generally will back off. When you sign your letter, don't use your normal signature, as agencies have been known to take the signature and forge something. Also, be sure to send in a trackable method, i.e. fedex, etc.
