Long story short,  I took the last guy's advice and called the courthouse in Mississippi. The attendant's first question was "Did you receive a notice from Pioneer? ". The lady said they get quite a few calls like mine because the notification letters don't carry any state letterhead like most others would be and people think they're being scammed. The lady even sent ne a copy of the original ticket via email. 

 So, Mississippi has the internet now and they're learning how to use it. My ticket was THIRTEEN YEARS OLD! Mississippi is finally going to get paid for all of those tickets we've forgotten about. 

You are right in what you stated in your last paragraph that you have to vet out everything and make sure it is legitimate.  However, the rest you need to be very careful.

For one, this is a valid Collection Agency.  Yes, they do a job that most people hate so you will of course get a lot of negatives about them.   I am not here to say one way or the other if those other claims are true or not as that is not really the point here.

But what you are basically doing is posting on a public forum that they just randomly picked your name and decided to run a scam with no proof of that.  They got your information from somewhere.  So if they did in fact get your name from the County, you may have bigger issues going on.  Where if you ignore it and figure they are a scam.  You may wake up one morning with your license suspended.

So the first thing you need to do is contact the County directly.  They "should" have a record of this "ticket" you received.  If in fact it is a valid ticket with your information...you probably have some serious issues with Identity Theft.   Or it could be something as simple as they transposed a number and it isn't yours.  But if you let it go and get it figured out...they are going to treat it like it is you.

The point is just don't automatically dismiss things like this, because it may not be what you think.
