We purchased this pool on June 13th 2014 & and had it setup by the 21st. It was very simple to setup and has been very easy to maintain. However, after only 3 weeks of minimal use by our young girls, I noticed what appeared to be a sprout of grass growing in two separate locations in the pool. My husband got in with goggles and examined the areas. Sure enough, grass had pierced the liner and was growing through the pool. I was in disbelief because A) we followed the instructions to the letter- we made sure to level & clear the ground of all debris (in the instructions it says sticks, rocks, sharp objects, etc.). We live in Southern California, on the coast, so we have very thin, sparse grass and some-what sandy soil. B) After clearing the minimal debris, we went ahead and put a ground cover (tarp) down over what little grass was in that area (some of the more expensive pools actually come with them, ours did not nor does it even recommend this step in the instructions). However, NOWHERE in the instructions OR warranty does it say that you should COMPLETELY clear ALL GRASS and that this product should NOT be placed on grass, at all, because some types of "hardy grasses" will pierce and grow through the liner.
When we called POLYGROUP to discuss the issue, initially, the representative told us this was not an issue & to just "pluck" the grass & normally there would be no damage to the liner. He also said to inspect the area and call them back if there was a hole. As my husband was in the pool, we were able to see there actually was a hole. We were then told that the warranty would not cover this because the ONLY coverage the warranty takes care of are manufacturer defects (which, according to the representative AND the manger, would be discovered upon the day of setup and initial filling) ANYTHING else (even if something "falls apart" after the "initial" filling), they will not cover because according to them, it cannot be proven that it is a manufacturer defect).
It is my understanding, after speaking at length with POLYGROUP, that this is a common occurrence with their liners. Our concern is that they need to state this in their instructions (that grass WILL grow through their liners, even when clearing debris & using a ground cover) and not show a picture of their product placed on grass.
